2005 Dodge Ram Cummins Peterbilt Stepside

International beat them to the punch.
|
The International CXTs are cool too, but they are a production vehicle and they look more modern. I like this one because it's custom and looks like an antique.

Aluminum cab, wood floors, very nice.
That engine would be easy to work on. |
That truck is the peak of cheap oil excesses. In 50 years people will marvel at things like that, dumbfounded at the waste.

Nice truck.
Good mileage for the size. I imagine it has got a pretty good towing capacity too. |
I was surprised at the MPG too. I had a Blazer that only got 15-17 MPG and this gets 20 MPG.

I'd put a set of stacks on it, though. Cool little big rig. I'd love to do something similar but with a sleeper cab so I could put some seats in it. I definitely prefer the old school look to the SXT and Ford versions. |
Stacks would look cool too, but I like that it has more of a "non-commercial" truck feel without them.
I think they did an amazing job with the proportions of the truck. It looks like the big brother of this one:  http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...ord-pickup.jpg I'd like to see someone do a pickup using this cab: http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...rochure-25.jpg |

About 5 years ago we sold two late-40's vintage stainless Freuhauf trailers (a 22' and 25') that had been used for storage (and were definitely worse for wear) to a guy that restored old semi tractors. I always wanted to restore an old semi and match it up with one of them but we really needed the space and replaced them with a couple 48's. And needless to say my finances, storage, ambition and ability don't currently match my vision. :) |

One of these antique american beer trucks would be cool as an RV too:

My dad just got a new truck... well new to him.
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/IMG_0051.jpg I have a 51 GMC panel truck, the one with the windows, the original suburban. my dad got the "new" truck because it has the correct engine for my panel truck. the panel has a Chevy engine in it now, and the GMC is just different enough that it makes the truck less collectible, and my dad always wanted to fix the panel up to factory original. The "new" truck is going to become the fun truck. i'm looking to find a diesel for it. not sure want direction this project will go, but my dad is excited about it, so thats good. |
Very cool Nik ... you bought 'Mater's GMC cousin 'Tater!:D:D

Looks like a fun project Nik! Cosmetic rust aside it looks like it's fairly solid (at least from this angle). It's amazing what decent sheetmetal will do. While I'm a big Cummins fan, I prefer to match the gear to the manufacturer. A chipped Duramax paired with an Allison tranny wouldn't be a bad combo to drop in that beast! :D |

I can't believe that thing opens up into a complete sound stage with lights.:cool:
Whiskeydan needs one of those for Beanstock. |
Its cool, but its built on a 3500 chassi so you can't really do anything with it.
If it was built on an over the road truck you could at least tow 30k pounds with it. NFW can you put a Volvo 160 behind that thing, you would break it. Doesn't even have air breaks, and its got the little 5.9. Someone put a lot of work into it, but not my cup of tea. If I want to drive a real truck I can do that, when I am not at work I want to drive a Mercedes.:D Trucks are freaken loud and ride like crap, you have to wear ear plugs if you are driving the dump truck for any period of time. Not something I want to drive for fun, no thanks. |

There was a MUCH better looking one at Cummins Truck Fest 2008. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoCXWrHARp8 |
That one was done very nicely as well. Looks like it's pretty quick too.
I think it still looks like a rig though. One of the things I like about the other one is it looks like a normal truck. Comparing the two trucks next to each other definitely makes the silver one look plain.:D |

Plus the tranny was non-synchro, much double clutching and that was only effective some of the time. In short, I abandoned the project and sold it to a younger hippie with the same original fantasy I had. I do like the bodies on those old rigs, those Allied moving vans pictured -- if you could put in a new drive train and front end (w/power steering) could be really cool, but sounds like a "bring money" sort of project. |
