Unhappy The girl in the window

http://www.tampabay.com/features/humaninterest/article750838.ece

"I've been in rooms with bodies rotting there for a week and it never stunk that bad," Holste said later. "There's just no way to describe it. Urine and feces — dog, cat and human excrement — smeared on the walls, mashed into the carpet. Everything dank and rotting."

Tattered curtains, yellow with cigarette smoke, dangling from bent metal rods. Cardboard and old comforters stuffed into broken, grimy windows. Trash blanketing the stained couch, the sticky counters.

The floor, walls, even the ceiling seemed to sway beneath legions of scuttling roaches.

"It sounded like you were walking on eggshells. You couldn't take a step without crunching German cockroaches," the detective said. "They were in the lights, in the furniture. Even inside the freezer. The freezer!"

Just totally despicable and rueful in every sense........

I shouldn't read stories like this at work. Hard to hide the red eyes afterward. Just think, the investigator sees horrible things every day. And this case was so bad it broke her down in her car. May God bless the people who cared enough for our children to call the hotlines. Too many see and don't act, I fear.

I'm speechless. And sick to my stomach. That poor thing. Thankfully she's out of that hell now.

Hearing of children being subjected to stuff like that is the absolute worst. I had an interview once to be a chaplain at an emergencey room where young victims of abuse were brought. The jb was only good for six months. When I asked about extending my tenure, they said, "Nobody can take more then six months of this . . ."

I didn't take the job.

From the article, apparently there were several visits to the home based on tips from neighbors, but until the very last one, social services really didn't do much to alleviate the problem...
