Going to LA this weekend...

Thanks to the Travelocity gods, we'll be landing in LA at 8am PST Friday. We're going to a wedding on Saturday and our return flight is at 6pm Sunday. We're not into the Disney-type tourist traps so was wondering what we can cram in on Friday and Sunday afternoons....

Depends on what you are into. I like the La Brea tarpits and museum on Wilshire It's right near the LACMA as well if you are into art...

Or you could try take a drive up Mt Wilson and check out the observatory if you have time.

I really liked the Getty Center but the LaBrea Tarpits were also very cool.

A little drive on Sunday? Take Imperial Hwy. (just so. of the airport) down to the beach. Turn left to go through Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo Bchs. (shops, eats – Uncle Bill’s for breakfast in Manhattan- a pier in Redondo) then on down to Malaga Cove and around Palos Verdes down to San Pedro and LA Harbor – there’s some fish houses – nothing great- you can sit out and watch the harbor traffic. Go right and up to Playa, Marina del Rey, Venice, and Santa Monica. My tip – Go left.

I have Mercedes friends from benzworld where I am a moderator. I drive down there a LOT. I have learnt things from them, and picked up a few things myself.

^^^^What Seger is singing about surely is Mulholland Drive, famous in film and books, where you can see out over LA, AND near to the Hollywood Bowl
and the famous HOLLYWOOD sign, and also,
Coldwater Canyon, accessible from Hollywood, not far from you near LAX, which will take you to Mulholland Drive at the top or straight ahead into Studio City OR west to the Coast. Great city views from there.

If you are gonna drive the freeways, ONLY do it between 10 and 3. Other than that they can be parking lots except around midnight and thereafter. The Diamond lanes are enforeced 24/7

Highway 2 out of La Canada and Flintridge up into the Angeles National Forest is a fun drive too. I recommend it. Even snows there in winter.

Santa Monica, near the promenade/3rd Street/pier are great strolls.
And close to you.

Don't forget the Mercedes classic center down in Irvine. Worth it!! But it will take over an hour each way.

I have not been there personally, but Barney's Beanery was recommended by natives, in Hollywood.

Definately take SantaMonica Boulevard into Beverly Hills and see Rodeo Drive!!
Quickest parking is a Valet place midway down the street, but it's convenient and secure though it's $20 or more to get your car back......you wife will like it especially, and you will like the car and people watching there too

A great Italian place to eat is around the corner
from Rodeo Drive, with reasonable prices but I forgot the name, just ask around.

Definately check the parts department and boutique at Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills off Santa Monica Blvd near Beverly Drive.

If there is time, see OLD PASADENA it's wonderful.

If you have time on Sunday morning, roll through Hollywood to the Sunday morning crafts and flea market at Melrose and Fairfax. Not to be missed!!

Then for lunch go to Canter's Deli down the street on Fairfax (it's in Little Israel!) incredibly wonderful, authentic Jewish deli food with a bakery too, since 1931 in business, and probably the best you will find this side of NY

I have more ideas, but those are worth thinking about off the top of my head
....noe of them too touristy
