Inspired by the XJ, but not a Jaguar, or a custom, or a prototype. This car was in production for almost 15 years and had an American engine.

Ara T. 11-18-2008 02:14 AM

I thought it was some sort of Jag.

Whatever it is it's drop dead gorgeous!

JayRash 11-18-2008 02:29 AM

Greenhouse looks like ans Aston martin lagonda....

PaulC 11-18-2008 02:32 AM

Not British. Same car, a little more nose: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3209/...442bb8.jpg?v=0

The name of the make and the name of the model start with the same letter of the alphabet. Revelation tomorrow morning...

RobTheMod 11-18-2008 03:16 AM

Bah! That's a DeTomaso Deauville.

Easy to figure out once you recognize the badges...

JayRash 11-18-2008 04:01 AM

looks very close to a Maserati front end

Correct.

PaulC 11-18-2008 10:59 AM

In regard to the quantity of production, this example of a European brand makes the DeTomaso look like a Dodge Aspen. The model name is currently used by General Motors and once used by Ford, though not necessarily for American-market cars:

Takes fuel efficiency to new levels of absurdity. The slogan was "Cheaper than Walking."

Cool pic. Speaking of Micro Cars ... this one is very cool:

Correct. Swiss, but based on a Plymouth Volare, of all things.

PaulC 12-15-2008 11:43 AM

Fascinating vehicle, but I'll bet it wags its tail more than my neighbor's Golden Retriever.

Chad300tdt 12-15-2008 12:21 PM

That car reminds me of R. Buckminster Fuller's "Dymaxion Car":

Corbin Sparrow

for TheDon

Came in gasoline and plug-in electric versions. Corbin is one of the biggest suppliers of aftermarket motorcycle saddles and like accessories. Being a free thinker, he thought he would try his hand at environmentally friendly cars. The cars failed and I don't think they are any longer available.

In January 1996, Corbin Motors began work on developing an electric vehicle. The Sparrow passed final testing for Department of Transportation certification in April 1999. In September of that year, the Sparrow production line began manufacturing multiple vehicles in Hollister, California.

Fewer than 300 Sparrows were produced. Corbin Motors filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on March 31, 2003, effectively killing the immediate future of the Corbin Sparrow. A bankruptcy court passed the Corbin assets to Ron Huch's company, Phoenix Environmental Motors, which tried to revive the Sparrow. On August 5, 2004, Ohio businessman Dana Myers bought the Sparrow interests from Ron Huch. The new company, Myers Motors of Tallmadge, Ohio, has upgraded the Sparrow, renamed it the MM NmG ("No more Gas"), and started selling it in April of 2006. As of June of 2008 the website lists a price of $29,995 without taxes or shipping.
