I also wanted to add that your ping from Surewest is showing approximately a 15-17 down. There is no way that those numbers will have a 20ms ping.

Does latency have a correlation with speed? I have been wondering that, my latency is always in the 50's which I guess is pretty good but sometime when playing Xbox I get torn up, like I am dead before I hear their gun go off.

Yes, the ping shows how long it takes for the host to respond back to you. Faster the ping, faster the speed. At the speeds he posted, the ping should be 5ms or less.

What is the fastest residential speeds you have seen in the US? I used to believe speedtests were real until now since I never imagined someone would BS about internet speeds.

The best CONSISTENT residential speeds I've seen are around 25-30 megs down.

One of these days I want to try it from my schools website. They must have a T1 line or something, stuff is seriously FAST in the computer lab.

If size doesn't matter, should speed?
![]() The speeds I posted are typical for me. On this laptop I have no complaints. It works plenty fast for me. The only time I notice a little slowness is when I'm running Tor bridges. My service from Cox cable in San Diego was much cheaper and I was happy with their customer service. Comcast simply doesn't seem to understand the concept of service. For comparison, with COX I had cable, internet and phone with unlimited long distance for around $100 mo. I'm sure it's gone up some, but I bet it isn't anywhere close to Comcast, for the same services. I've had to cut back on services because my bill was nearly $190 month for the same service I had in San Diego + HD on one TV. When I first subscribed to Cox about 10 years ago, I wasn't happy with the speed. They came out to my house and took some splices out of my lines which helped the strength of the signal and sped up my speed. It was still nowhere near their advertised speed. I called up and complained again, and when the technician came out he removed a filter from my line. Once the filter came off my internet was lightning fast. After that I was basically getting their highest home speed for the price of their least expensive service. I don't know if all cable service limits your speed in the same way. One thing I do know, is that comcast does not limit me to a monthly 20 GB limit. With the TOR relay running nearly 24 hours a day, sometimes for a week or more at a time I go way over 20 GB a month.
