Just picked up my Dream Camera

I just picked up a Minolta X700 camera for 75 bucks off of Craigslist. I've been wanting one of these for the last sixteen years, ever since owning it's cheaper progeny, the X300s with which I was very happy for a long time. I could never afford an X700 but such is techological change and depreciation over time that what was thousands of dollars back then was 75 now. It came with a 50mm lens, a 28mm lens and a 75 - 260mm zoom. As well as flash and Vivitar lens extension tubes. I'm going to be going thru a lot of film I think until I can afford a really decent high end DSLR.

- Peter.

Good choice. Go on ebay and get a power winder for it. You will be happy you did

Not sure about the power winder. I shoot mainly landscape so quickfilm advance and rewind etc is less important to me than lenses etc. Still. Maybe. I've already been looking on line and there are still a huge array of accessories out there for them.

Thank's. That's an idea. I'll see what I can do about putting one up.

The X300 was my first decent camera as well but always wanted a X700. The X700 was the real deal with all the accessories, if I'm not mistaken it was the first camera with the P setting. Later I bought a Minolta XM, the ultimate Minolta for the macho men

Good to hear you still shoot film: film is magic, digital is dull.

Not so sure about the magic bit. I like digital as well but I'll probably keep shooting film too for a long time to come.

The X700 has the 'P' setting. I originally bought it for the wife when I got my X560 which does not have the 'P' but has more manual control. The best thing is that all Minolta 'M' mount lenses work with both so I haver a lot of options.

The power winder I have does one shot at a time, one shot per second and then three shots per second. I use it when taking sports/racing shots in 3ps mode -- Way cool, but you go through film fast!

I have an X700 but it needs some help, I also have an X7A and an XG1. I like the X7A which is basically an X300.

My favorite cameras however are the Olympus OM models. I have a New Olympus OM-1 . It's practically new, as my mother ran maybe 2 rolls of film through it in 15 years before giving it to me with some brand new roll of film that expired in 1986. I also have an Olympus OM-4 that i recently put a new circuit in.

I would have a hard time naming a "dream camera" after all the ones I've burned film through. A Leica CL would be fun or my brother in law's M8. A cherrywood 4x5 field camera with a graphflex back would also be cool . . .

You have a camera that takes pictures of dreams? Wow! Cool. I hope you'll be posting some of those soon. I can't wait to see them.
