With the release of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. DVD set at last imminent, I'm thinking about comparing it to its contemporaries. Amazon, for example, has sets of the 1960s Patrick McGoohan vehicle "Secret Agent" ("Danger Man," in the U.K.) with 4 eps per set. From everything I've heard, they featured tricky plots, John LeCarre-style characters, great acting from McGoohan and others, and focused on a more realistic look at the spy game than did MfU and the early Bond films.
Anybody have these and/or watch them recently? .

McGoohan's role dovetailed nicely with the later "The Prisoner" series, which ran as a summer replacement in the US.

I thought he drove a Sunbeam Tiger in the original opening scenes.

Haven't seen Secret Agent Man in ages but I did teach the guitar part of the theme song to my nephew when he was about 7 and now he's a budding young guit-box player at 17.
There's a man who leads of a life of danger, Everyone he meets he stays a stranger, (whoops) dar-da-dar-da-ta-dar, da-ta, darrrrrrr, dar, to dar, (guitar bit, I forget the rest of the words) We played it in my Jr. High rock n' roll band in the mid 60s.

In the original "Get Smart" series. Smart drove a Sunbeam Tiger, then the mini-Corvette Opel GT.

Will you accept Steve Carell as the new Maxwell Smart?

In the mid '60s, I used to watch that show as "Danger Man' when my Dad was stationed in Lisbon, Portugal.
I especially remember the neat instrumental opening theme music, which unfortunately was replaced for the US-market by the corny rock 'n roll theme-song 'Secret Agent Man' by Johnny Rivers. A local bookstore recently had 'Danger Man' availible on DVD, but for around $120! As for 'Get Smart', I seem to recall, Maxwell Smart also drove a Karmann-Ghia in some of the episodes. Happy Motoring, Mark
