How good are the new Toyota Tundra's?

This isn't a Toyota forum, but you guys seem to know a little about everything. Any word on the new Tundra's? They seem to be a nice truck, just expensive like all Toyota's.

Toyota doesn't really seem to understand the core of US truck buyers, so you have to search for the 8ft bed basic one. The Toyota dealers in CT won't even sell them, or at least they wouldn't last year. This year they may be singing a different tune. They are only interested in $35k luxury trucks.

But I like the Toyota's, and the older body style too:

Looks like they put the oil filter on top, which is nice.

How the hell should we know? This is a Mercedes forum, not a "Bubba" Truck Forum. (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Have you seen the Toyota forums? If it doesn't involve a sticker or some kind of wheel question they are useless.

On a serious note, you may want to look at the Nissan Titan's. When I bought my wife's Xterra this past August, I was offered a brand new one with a sticker of $32,000 for $15,500 out the door. A guy who works for me bought a Titan a couple of years ago and really likes it.

Hmm, I will look. I'm not a big fan of Nissan products though. My friends wife has a 2005 Altima she bought new, and takes really good care of it. I mean she will freak if she goes 50 miles over on a service. But at just about 100k miles the interior isn't holding up so well.

Edit: Just looked, won't work. I need an 8ft bed and I don't want a king cab. Nissan is worse than Toyota. They also don't offer a 6 cylinder.

As a Toyota/Lexus fan/owner I am on alot of Toyota forums and they are good trucks. They seem to be par with the other big trucks.

I had a 2000 Tundra (V8, 4wd) that I loved and regret selling. It had 107K miles, but ran like it had 40K. Rode very nice for a full-size truck as well.

The only bad thing I know about the early Tundras were transmission failures were common on the 2000-02 models and cracked manifolds were common.

Otherwise excellent trucks, but if I buy another Toyota truck (and I will someday), it will probably be a 1996-98 T100. Not as nearly as big and powerful as the Tundra, but these are virtually bulletproof.

I can't say about the newer ones, but I have a 2004 standard cab, 8' bed, 6cylinder engine, A/C, auto. It's been flawless. The only slight negative is the mpg. I only get about 15 mpg around town, maybe 17-18 highway, and I have a very light foot. I did buy a cap for it, that might account for the lower MPG.

I agree they are a very hard truck to find. Same thing here, the dealers were loaded with 35,000+ trucks. Mine was the Sunday paper promo ad, 1 in stock. Sticker was close to 18k, paid 14k out the door. Didn't even try talking them down, I felt like I stole it.

If you find one, buy it. It may not have many bells or whistles, but A/C and auto is all you really need for a work/utility truck. Change the oil, filters and rotate the tires and it will last a long long time.

The GF has a 2004 double cab 4x4 with the V8.

Likes:

Super quiet, smooth ride. Even nicer than my E300.
Perfect build quality.
Excellent servicability under the hood - extremely easy to replace spark plugs, etc...

Dislikes:

Shifts at an annoyingly high RPM even if there's not a lot of demand.
Fairly low MPG 15-17 combined.
Oil filter is on the bottom. You have to take the skid plate off to change it.
Kind of soul-less and sterile.
Somewhat gutless for a V8.

The last year of this body style had a more powerfull V8.

Thats about what I expected, I know a few people with them and the biggest complaint is so so mileage.

Look at the pictures of the new V6, that looks like a remote oil filter on the right front of the engine.

The problem with domestic trucks is they try to burry the engine down low, to make them handle like a Ferrari or something. So working on them is hard. Toyota still puts them higher so you can get to stuff.

The garage that takes care of my non Mercedes cars(2004 Dodge Caravan SXT:29,000 MILES and a 1995 GMC Jimmy SLT 4WD:80,000 miles) The guy at the garage who does towing said he had to tow a brand new Toyota Tundra wil under 100 miles on it. It just stalled in the middle of the road. Who knows maybe he has a bad one. Personally I have never owneda Toyota but I hear lots of good and bad about them.

I have a 2005 Tundra Doublecab and really like it. The 2005 and 2006 V8's do have more power than the earlier ones. It's got a 6ft bed and a huge 4 door cab which is exactly what I wanted. Mine is the basic SR5 model with few options. Pretty much everything I wanted was standard except keyless entry and the better sound system. I get 18-20mpg on the highway. 16 around town. I keep records on all gas and maintenance just like in my Mercedes. I also use Mobil-1 just like in my Mercedes!

It's a very solid well built truck. Nothing flashy. No leaks or squeaks. Very good quality all around. My brother-in-law rode in mine one time and the next time I saw him he had bought a 2006 exactly like mine except he got 4WD.

What is appealing about the biggest, ugliest truck on the market known as the Tundra? Toyota is not what it used to be. They are a company that think their S*** don't stink judging by the high prices they command on their vehicles. Come on, sticker price on on a 2007 supercab V6 with no carpet of 27K? I would go to ford if its gonna be a work truck. There has to be a reason why they are the number one selling pickup over two decades in a row.

Yeah my dads friends daughter has a 2005 Accord that just blew the transmission with about 50k on it. Those early 5 spd's are junk. $3,200 to fix.

Used cars can do that, thats why I want new or close to new. I don't want to have to fix the thing.
