NO more politics, good food thread

This thread is for everyone wishing to escape them....I will start off the post by saying I love a good pizza and beer. Chicago style with a guiness or maybe a Boddingtons pub ale.....:)

I am still thinking about the corned beef thread from Monday

I love beer and scotch. Just getting into wine but it seems too complicated for this man's humble tastes. Beer is Stella, Becks, Pilsner Urquell and some other local microbreweries. Scotch is the Balvenie 12yr doublewood, Macallan 18yr, Laphroaig.

Food - too numerous to mention. Wife and I both cook, I make a decent braised lamb stew, wife likes to cook vietnamese and cambodian.

We just bought a new gas range, supposed to be delivered today, so that will undoubtedly spur a burst of innovative cooking...hope it lasts! ;)

On a slight tangent - anyone know of a steakhouse in Fort Myers called 'Wilson' or 'Smith's' or something like that? Best key lime pie I have ever had, and I am trying to remember what the place was called...thanks!

I love corned beef, pastrami, too!

I'm making a faltering attempt at doing the Atkins Diet again, so pizza is out for the time being. I do love pizza, though.

Helpplease I'm from Louisiana but New York thin crust pizza and beer are the best....at least my New York style thin crust is; we make our own crust and all. I do agree about the type of beer though:D

The Crawfish season is just starting here so in about a month or two my focus will be on boiled mudbugs the pizza will have to wait.

I'm a one of beer's biggest fan's I almost always pass in liquor if beer is available.

When is comes to fine dining I prefer lamb and crab but am starting to have a like for sushi if its very fresh.

On the other side New York pizza and wings, there's a pizza place in Watertown that has a buffalo wing pizza that is heavenly. I'm looking into have some half cooked models shipped.

and I've never not liked anything cajun.

There should be a forum rule - No Food Threads Before Lunch

Heathens and your "New york style pizza" ;) Best key lime I ever had was at Bonefish grill...very good...If anyone wants to post some cajun recipies I would not be opposed :) Whats the best steak you ever had? (and if you say mine or at home post how you made it)

Dry v Wet Aged Beef

There are great steak places all over the US - not saying that only NOLA has good steaks but these two are close and favorites for me

Dry Aged Steaks - Either of John Besh's joint in New Orleans
Wet Aged Steaks Morton's, also in the Crescent City
I am a carnivore!

A nice 6 oz filet mignon served with shrimp poppers washed down with Pilsner Urquell.

The Clk Man 01-21-2009 11:19 AM

Beer and pork ribs are my favorite.

bob_98sr5 01-21-2009 11:26 AM

Thank goodness for this thread!

Some of my favorite places in So Cal for pizza:

Pedone's Pizza in Redondo Beach
Joe Peeps in North Hollywood (not sure if its still around, been years since I lived there)
La Babera's in LA

Best commercial pizza for me is *cold* "The Works" pizza from Numero Unos. It tastes so much better the next morning :)

Probably the best pizza I've ever had though, was in Wellesley, MA when I was a grad student at Babson in the late 90s. It was called Figs. It was owned by one of those fancy TV chefs, but at the time, I didn't know it. The most amazing thin crust pizzas I've ever had. I hear its no longer there though.
