Savor the moment

Peaceful transfer of power within the most power nation the planet has ever witnessed. The people have made their choice and the politicians bow.

Good job.

Agreed. This is one of the beautiful things about our country. The guidelines for transfer have been established and are readily followed.

Peaceful my @ss. You obviously weren't watching ANY of the campaign ads or the actions of their followers.

That's just goofy talk. And it flowed every which way. But it was all talk, thank goodness.

What we witnessed to day was the people in power legally, willingly and gracefully releasing their control of the government and entrusting that power to their political rivals. The previous administration is now an historical footnote.

Not a shot fired, not a lord poisoned. That sir, is a marvel in human history.

Oh I may be going out on a limb here, but something tells me he is aware of that.

Agreed. We are so used to it we don't realize how rare it is. No coup d'etats, no rebel troops, no drama. Just turning the page to the 44th chapter and moving on...nice.

...and how is this one any different from the last 43 inaugurations? I don't recall any of our other presidents taking office by force or legal trickery (other than Bush's non-popular vote "victory").

Read the posts between my last and this one.

Get a grip. It's not all about political parties. Much as some might wish it to be.

Other than the "most powerful country" part, how's this any different from the several dozen other democracies in the world?

The beauty is not in it being unique. The beauty is that it happens at all.

What about all the other countries that peacefully, willfully exchange power? Sure it is definately a nice thing to have, but it isn't out of the norm in any way...

True, but that doesn't mean it should be taken for granted. It is worth reflecting on how lucky we who live in those several dozen democracies are.

I agree it's beautiful, but you initially made it sound like it's only beautiful in the US.

Absolutely. Living in undemocratic countries sucks (I'm speaking from personal experience). But to me even worse would be unstable, violent places even if they're technically democratic.
