I disagree. Jackson and Sharpton somehow escaped the inevitability of receiving the nomination, not to mention the election, in spite of the big bump that comes from being black.

Obama's speech in '04 caught people's attention because it sounded like a way more sincere expression of non-partisanry than we've become accustomed to hearing.

If I didn't trust the guy's intellect and inclinations, no way would I have supported him just cuz of blackness.

These have not happened, and maybe they can't. But I would like to see the attempt before I cede power to the government over compensation of executives etc.
Getting the govt. involved in executive compensation would be dicey and the only reason it should be on the table at all is due to the enormous amount of public funds that are being handed over to these guys. Paulsen always put on a sincere worried and concerned look on his face, but his original 3 page directive on the matter including the 'no oversight' provision makes me wonder.

The culture of profiteering corruption among these guys is so entrenched, I'm not sure the shareholders are going to be able to root it out.

It looks to me like the ultimate and logical expression of Ayn Randism (or Ayn Randiness, take your pick), the Virtue of Selfishness and all.

I'm trying to think if I heard any outrage from you when the news of a Green Beret getting electrocuted in his shower in Iraq came out. Who was the contractor in charge of that job? Why is it that several incidents, almost identical, took place a few years previous, and yet it happened again? Who is responsible? How did such an incompetent contractor get the job?

And then there was the building (a police station IIRC) "built" in Iraq that ended up being useless owing to massive flaws, sewage seaping from the ceilings being just one of many.

How much taxpayer money went to these affairs? Who was the incompetent individual in our govt. who doled out that money with such poor results?

Low voltage DC would be much safer, especially if it's a job being overseen by Kellogg, Brown, and Root overseen by Halliburton -- a job being put into place in the midst of an absolutely necessary war, built by some guy who assured KBR that he knew what he was doing, just like the contractors on the previous installations where the same GDed thing happened.

Are you kidding me? You think this story is worthy of mirthful dismissal? What kind of ivory tower freak are you anyway?

I absolutely agree with you on this... The guys from KBR should never have allowed this. However, it did not say if they built the housing, just that they inspected it. Either way, they should have fixed it immediately.
