New Honda Insight - Still Don't Get It

Has anyone noticed that Honda is REALLY pushing the Insight? I've been coming across ads for it on a number of websites.

I still don't understand what the point of them making this car was, though..the Civic Hybrid costs just as much, or up to $3000 more than the Insight, gets 2 more mpg hwy, has more power..I mean, if you're going to shell out $20k on a car, what's another $3000? (This coming from someone who will never buy a new car, btw)

Not to mention that the Insight basically copied the Prius rear.

Is this supposed to be like a "Civic hatchback" that they just named differently so people buy it? God forbid anyone drive a hatchback or wagon anymore :rolleyes:
Is this the gap filler between the Fit and the Civic?? Is Honda turning into Toyota, like back when they offered FIVE suv models?? Small, A little bigger, med, a little bigger than that... edit- they have SEVEN!

Because its "New"....

The only recent Honda that has made sence is the FCX Clarity (Fuel Cell powered) Unfortuantly it can only be bought on that other plant that is known as Southern California....

I still don't understand why anyone buys a new car at all. I suppose those with plenty of money and no interest in doing any repairs would be candidates. But way too many people that cannot afford the payments buy way too expensive of vehicles.

I always shake my head when someone my age talks about getting a new car...

They always have to settle for something cheap, when they could have just gotten something nice that was used. Oh well.

Fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

Freakin' hideous! I'm generally a fan of Honda products, they've treated me well over the years.

I thought the Civic hybrid was a reasonable approach, maybe offer a wagon version. Apparently those who drive hybrids want everyone to know they're driving hybrids so they have to be shockingly different from everything else on the road. It just screams "Look at me and how green I am!"

I loved the old ones, neat little cars that were actually fun to drive unlike the Prius. Now im not so sure since it's big and fat now. The grill is hideous too, it reminds me of the Acura ones. Also reminds me of the VW GTI chrome grills, that they have now dropped because they aren't in style anymore.

Yeah! I actually like the way some of the new Fords look, but the grille just kills it for me. I don't want my car to look like my razor

The reason, IMO, is simple. Honda's Insight hit the roads before the Prius. Who got all the press, Honda or Toyota? Whose car is the presumed icon of hybrids?
Honda then put hybrids into its regular fleet. No noise about it, no hype. Everyone quickly adopted the strategy and you can get hybrid anythings by anybody now.
I suspect that once the FCX is on the market, Toyota will come out with a fuel cell car afterward, and everyone will ignore Honda again.

Honda is just trying to get a little attention.
