So, talk me out of it.:D He'll sell it to me for $3,000.

As a relative newb to the world of Mercedes, a 6.9 is one of a few I would really like to own. I'd be foolish enough to ignore the knowledgeable advice. :) You know what you're doing so why the hell not?!

Funny how relative that 10 mpg thing is! ;)

A 6.9 isn't a car one drives daily.....so the MPG thing isn't really an issue....

A 6.9....drool. That'd be awesome. No fun though since we have stupid speed limits.

Speed limits? We dont need no stinkin' speed limits.

Even if it's at a cost of 7 mpg :D

I agree! Sadly the police still do enforce them. :o

What is the top speed of a 6.9? I've taken my 300E to about 125 pretty easily, and it still had more left. That is instant arrest territory.....

U.S. spec versions would just barely pull 140MPH. I remember when the car was introduced and the magazine tests/reviews. Around 7 seconds 0-60. Not sure about Euro versions. Back then, they had a significant power advantage due to more lax emissions regulations.

I had wanted one of these for many years. I've driven a couple, but decided not to jump. By contemporary standards it just isn't very quick or fast. A 126 chassis 560SEL has essentially the same performance and is less painful to own. Granted, it's not as unique.

Ownership costs didn't scare me too too much. Most of the stuff is the same as any other 116 chassis. There are several high dollar M100 items, but I didn't uncover any that were especially problematic. Basically, do you always have $3K you can spend on the car at a moments notice to get it roadworthy? That should be enough to cover anything but an engine rebuild.

You do know there's an M-100 board out there, don't you?

Huh, an engine 3.9 liters bigger than my W124 and yet it barely gains a second in the 0-60 and has the same top speed......maybe I'll just get a 500E instead. :D :D

The top speed was 141mph. I haven't taken mine that fast....but not far from it :D

I wish I had the cash to burn to buy my friend's 1992 84K 500E Black over Black.

Or "417 cubes" :)

TylerH860 05-12-2009 04:33 PM

Yes, it is just as fast as my euro 500SL, but no Mercedes can roast tires like this car. The torque coupled with all that weight and you have to lightly ease into the accelerator to not get the tires to slip.

TheDon 05-12-2009 04:37 PM

do it, make it nice and perfect and sell it for more... I'd like a 6.9 one day

That's simply not possible. ROI is terribly low. The people who want them are existing M-100 owners anyhow.

It's not as bad as a Phantom which depreciates $6 per mile.

TylerH860 05-12-2009 08:07 PM

Uh oh, there's a deal killer.

You don't think I'll get my money out of it after fixing the few things, cleaning it up, and enjoying it for 3-6 months or so? I certainly think so, unless something seriously goes wrong with the car.

Came back to look at it again today, and the suspension was still upright. I knew they had not started it because there was no battery in the car.
