It was just OK. I was a bit disappointed but not overly displeased.

The story seemed weak and some of the main characters (Chekhov, Bones, and Scotty) were horribly portrayed.

I liked the Kirk, Spock, Ohura, and Sulu characters.

I'll probably see it again though, just for the helluva it.

I was there. I went to the IMAX showing at 12:30 last night! I was at work at 7:30 this morning. I'm on my second cup of coffee. I thought of posting how I felt about the film this morning... but I thought I should digest some coffee first. I drove about a hour away to see the movie with some friends. the Mercedes Diesel and Star Trek people would be proud, the SD did most of the driving on the way back form the theater, at 3:30 in the morning.

OK, so, was it good, Yes, should you see it, Yes.

Now go watch the movie so I can talk about it and not spoil it for you!

Off to get another cup...

Maybe we should put a spoiler disclaimer on this thread before we start talking about the film, people really need to see if before reading about it. It was VERY good, and I wouldn't want to distort anyones impressions of the film.

OK, I'm ready to talk about the film... Spoiler Alert... Kinda (no plot, but still)
Highlight to read

I thought the casting was good, I like all the characters. I thought all the actors did a good job bringing the characters to life. Chekhov was kind of out of place. I mean it felt like he was included in the movie because he was on the list of characters, not because he was required for the film. In fact this was my biggest complaint about the movie. It felt like they forced the characters into their roles, instead of letting them have their own stories. Uhura, Scotty, Bones and Spock were all great. the rest of the characters deserved more story. Sulu was just kind of there. He had a cool role, but he I would have liked more back story. Chekhov as mentioned before could have been left out of this movie and got a better introduction in the next one. Kirk... this is my number one gripe with the film. He is such a larger then life character that he needed at least another 2 hours to tell this story. I felt like they forced his rise to the captain's seat instead of letting him earn it.

For you Star Wars people, It would be like if they skipped all of Luke's story in Empire and forced him to be the man he was at the end of Jedi all in the first movie. Kirk was not really allowed to grow at all. The movie established that he was Kirk, and that alone seemed to qualify him to be the captain. I thought it was kind of disrespectful to his character. Kirk deserves to be a well rounded character, not something from a cracker jack box.

I think they were all portrayed great. Do you honestly think anyone could adequately develop 8 characters in a 2 hour movie?

The story did remind me of the xindi arc in Enterprise a little too much, and the predictability factor was high. No big shocker moments like Tasha Yar getting randomly murdered or anything like that.

In my opinion the reboot of the franchise should have been sold as a 3 movie deal. they should have gave all the characters more development over the course of the 3 movies, and it should have been set during the Earth-Romulan War. Use time travel as needed to created the universe they wanted, but they should have given the conflict more "epicness" (like a whole war not just a rouge bad guy).

Not a geek but I enjoyed it. But then again my work gave me the afternoon off and treated us to the movie as a team building event so I might be a little biased.

I heard from the movie critics that it is terrible. It isn't real life anyway, just like Batman isn't. Some may not think so, however.

If you do, don't sit too close to the screen. I did and I had to move back, I could not make out what was going on.

I thought it was great. I did not care for the boat-like throttle for time-warp engagement lever. The special effects of phaser fights and jumping to warp was great.

I thought it was surprizingly good. I might even go see it again. And I've not done that except with Star Wars movies.
