The President and I see eye to eye!

As you may know from reading my posts, President Obama and I do not see eye to eye on many issues. Silly things like Cap & Trade, Healthcare reform, Bailout nation, ACORN, etc. However when it comes to something important we do agree and I want all of you to take notice.

This important monumental thing we can agree on is....

Food. We love eating

Hamburgers. One of our favorite things to eat

Ray's Hellburgers! Best darn burger I have ever had!

That's right Ray's Hellburger that hole in the wall in Rosslyn, Virginia. The President found out about this place when he was a lowly Senator (guess he had to do something to kill the time he was supposed to be in the Senate) and loves it. This is the place he made famous about a month ago by taking his entire entourage over and ordering a bunch of burgers to take back to the White House. Well after thinking about it for a while my friend Kellie (yep IE) and I ventured into the wilds of Rosslyn to get a hellburger.
This place has no sign and is located ina small strip mall on WILSON BLVD just up the hill from the firehouse. If you drive from DC, when you crossover from Georgetown make a right on to WILSON and stay in the right side lanes. Once you pass the statue of Cupid (A bunch of aluminum arrows) get innthe right lane. When you pass the fire house, turn into the strip mall parking lot and look for a sign for Mexican food (there are two Mexican restaurants, youwant the one in the middle of the shops with a golden Sun as it's logo. Ray's is in the same door, but to the right, not the left.
If you take Metro get off at Rosslyn from the Blue or Orange lines and walk up hill about four blocks...

What makes Ray's better than other burgers is the meat and how it is prepared. The meat is FRESH ground steak not what other places use and it is prepared in various ways. You can get it just grilled, cooked inside a peppercorn crust or even other ways. The toppings and rolls are out of tis world too.

I ordered the BIG daddy with the meat crusted in peppercorns, cooked medium rare and put on a seeded bun (poppy and sesame) along with cooked mushrooms, onions and a thick slice of blue cheese. All the ingredients are top notch and fresh. Kellie had a burger cooked without the peppercorn crust, covered with cooked green and red peppers! Se could not finish her burger, but took half of it home. These things are huge! They do not come with fries and you do not miss them. They do come with a watermelon slice, which is all the dessert you need.

And the best part?

President Obama is all about fiscal responsibility and so am I. My burger cost under $7! Adding a bottle of water and I still got away for under $10! You order up front and they give you a plastic number card. A person (waiter?) then brings out the food and looks for you to match your number. They have inside and outside tables but they find you.

Ray's opens at 11:30 daily except Monday when they open at 5pm and Friday when they open at 11am. Every night they stay open unti 11pm.

You know how I take my grilling seriously, I make a mean burger, but I just handed my Burger crown to Ray's (to paraphrase "Pin Ball Wizard")

If you are in DC for work, or just seeing the sights this summer I cannot recommend the place enough. It does get busy, Kellie and I managed to get there at 1:30 and it was pretty empty, but the girl at the counter told us that the place does get mobbed. There are a lot of office towers and hotels nearby and now that Obama put them on the map they are thinking that they need to expand.

Have fun and a great lunch!

Yes
