New Mac / PC Commercial

SCENE: Large puffy snowflakes, falling gently to the ground. Mac, dressed in a parka, boots, gloves. PC enters scene left.
MAC: PC! Glad you could make it to my SNOW party.
PC: I wouldn't miss it for the world. I love a good party.
PC: I hope you don't mind. I brought a GUEST along to your party.
MAC: Arrrggghhh! *poof*

Sorry couldn't resist.

If you don't get it, search for "snow leopard guest".

Good joke but why anyone would use GUEST account on their own machine??

If you are that afraid of losing your data when upgrading you just need to do few things prior to updating to Snow Leopard:

First and foremost, make sure you have a current, usable backup of your machine before you upgrade. This is good advice in general, but even more so any time you're upgrading the operating system. Second, if you do have the Guest account enabled in 10.5, disable it (in the Accounts System Preferences panel) prior to upgrading. After upgrading, you can then re-enable the Guest account, as apparently Guest accounts created in Snow Leopard itself don't cause this data loss issue to arise.

This is an easy way to resolve the issue till Apple find a fix and still 100 times better than Windows VISTA Even Microsoft have acknowledged lately that VISTA is the worst platform they ever released in the market. They are so embarrassed by it, so they have offered low cost upgrade for VISTA users to Windows 7 even before the official IN store date...enough said
The best and most popular MS platform is XP by far even after MS stopped selling the OS still the most liked and trouble free OS.

My first ever PC was Windows 3.11.... Gosh I am getting old if I started working with computers when 3.11 was in use

3.11 is a DOS based system... to start any application you have to go to DOS screen and type a command....oh sweet memories

Hey I still do that every day, in Unix/Linux. Command line is cool!

Yeah, WinXP is very good, and Win7 is excellent. As good or better (more capable in daily use, so better) than MAC. The endless dribble of "insults" against the Windows OS by Apple is getting really old.....and most all of what they say is untrue or extremely outdated.

Just like their "laptop hunter" ads. I'm sure that as soon as Win7 is released, Chiat-Day will tool up new ads for Steve and his crew.

Both Apple and Microsoft fans should realize . . . for either to succeed, the other need not fail.

Hahahaha it's actually really funny because the WIndows 7 launch parties were a total flop.

And the guest account for SL is never used for me. I got my time machine backup running!

Regardless though it is a pretty mission critical problem. It needs to be fixed ASAP.

Note Iam not against Apple / Macs.
It's the zealots and their rant that any PC problem can be solved by getting a Mac.
And sometimes even Apple's attitude, the way they deny problems even exist (software and hardware) even with a fairly high number of reported cases.

Sorry, there are just as many bugs in the Mac OS as Windows.

Apparently though there are people that do use the GUEST account, as witnessed by the number of people complaining.
What I found interesting was the number of people that don't have backups, although percent wise I'd wager the PC world is worse off.

Then we add this :

Dying Time Capsules

http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9139367/Dying_Apple_Time_Capsules_spark_complaints?source=CTWNLE_nlt_pm_2009-10-14

As a final note, Windows would be many times more secure then even Apple claims Macs are, IF the admin accounts / rights are set per MSFTs recommendations. Unfortunately that then makes the PC only marginally usable.
Windows 7 has made great strides in resolving that, time will tell.

What about them? Its actually true that MACs cost quite a bit more than an equivalent PC.

The stuff Apple says is all hearsay and made up. "Thousands of viruses" "Crashing all the time" etc....none of that is true. Windows is very stable.

MAC just admitted to an issue in their new "Snow Leopard" OS version that deletes all user settings and files if you log in and out of the guest account. Looks like MSoft is not the only one with flaws.

Again, just like the extreme wings of the political spectrum, the "fan boys" of each camp give and take and have to learn to roll with the punches.

There's never been a bullet proof OS, probably never will be. Same hold true for hardware . . . and poltical parties and candidates.

Compared to Windows Vista, in a recent Pwn2Own test, the Mac machine fell the earliest followed by Vista, the older Ubuntu OS held out and couldn't be hacked. Mac even though based on BSD needs to revamp its OS, specially security part. Earlier on they would threaten litigation to anyone challenging their OS's security, they have softened up but now they need to work on their OS instead of selling iphones. Vista or 7 properly patched is as safe, if not safer than Mac.
