It's the tone of her voice...

...when she says: "OK, fine, just do what makes you happy..."

That tone that says: "No, I'm not interested in going with you to that car / truck / air / show / fly-in / GTG, etc... and I won't flat out TELL you that you can't go but I'm going to make sure you fell like hell the entire time you're there because you'll be thinking about me sitting home alone doing house work because we never do anything together..."

"And be home early!"

Me: "Never mind, I changed my mind, I wasn't really interested in going anyway..."

Anyone else have to deal with that?

Not anymore!

Hey, try this...

Help her out around the house...don't wait for her to ask, just jump in and start helping...when she's doing the dishes, grab the towel and start drying, or if the stuff air-dries, put 'em away without asking where the stuff goes...you should know that by now...

Pull out the vaccumm and start pushing that buddy around...surprise her with the little things...

Then, the next time, she won't be so "$*#^^" with her response...

It can't hurt and it might just land you a few "bed-time" points for your column...

It took me three marriages to finally find one that DOESN'T do that. She even goes to the local junk yards with me searching for parts for our other vehicles.

No that would never fly with me, thats why I'm not married yet.

Why do you have to be attached at the hip? You do your thing, she does her thing with her friends, and you meet for dinner. Works for my parents.

Doing the dishes without being asked is a lot like foreplay.

X2 on that. I get lots of mileage (and real clean hands) from that one.

the correct response is (pick one)
a. "I'll be back in a few hours- how about dinner at 8 at XYZ's? I'll meet you there.
b. "But you said you were going shopping with ABC today so I made plans as well. I'll be back in a few hours and we'll have dinner together."
c. "Look, we both know you have no interest in going to the (whatever) with me- why don't you stay home and relax and when I get home we'll make dinner."

In all cases, arrive back when you say you will be there/make the reservation at XYZ's/pick up some flowers, and in the case of making dinner arrive home with all the ingredients.

Of course, there is always the option of simply saying "See ya later!" and skating out the door

That last option is fraught with immense danger.....use only as a last resort and make sure you have a key to the house with you if you do it
