Pigeon abatement

A client of mine has a rental with some unwelcome attention from pigeons. Two years ago, a remodel put part of a porch roof a couple feet above the previous smaller roof. Not the best design, but there it is. Pigeons like the small covered space with room for nests. It's at the side of the house, and beaucoup pigeon droppings fall on the sidewalk which leads to the rear apt.

I put stainless steel pigeon spikes from Home Depot in the small roof area that is covered and at the point of entry to those spots. Not sure yet how well it's working. The house next door has some phone or power lines under the eves (2 story) where the pigeons also like to hang out. That side of the walkway is even more covered in droppings.

My employer says the guy is a slumlord, will never do anything about it so she wants me to see what I can do, unannounced, which I'm willing to do. Will do him a favor as his house is coated with pigeon guano in spots and it can't be helping the wiring to have 4 or 5 pigeons on it.

I gather that such areas can be netted off so that the pigeons can't get their perch. I'm thinking to screw on some strips of wood holding the netting to the house about a foot below the power-lines, and angling it up to be attached the eves with more strips. I'll get stainless screws that will only penetrate about 5/8ths into the siding.

Anybody done it?
