Anybody? :D

He's just a pup, and wearing an awful lot of puppy fuzz.

davidmash 12-20-2009 12:05 AM

I don't have one but he is a handsome little guy.

snookwhaler 12-20-2009 09:49 AM

Thats a puppy?

How big do they get?

GermanStar 12-20-2009 11:39 AM

He's nine months, so nearly full-grown. I'm hoping he'll grow about one more inch.

The Swede 12-20-2009 01:12 PM

Very cool.

Mr. Frank X. Morris has Salukis, correct?

GermanStar 12-20-2009 02:17 PM

That's what they say.

Nice looking pup there, his body looks like a Greyhound. I wonder if there is any Greyhound in his lineage.

I think he has a bunch of them, and he has posted about them many times before.

They and Borzois must certainly have some similar bloodlines. The body shape is very similar.

I wanted a Saluki as a kid but my dad wasn't into dogs as much as I was.

Afghan Hound, Greyhound, Saluki, and Borzoi are the four corners of the sighthound realm, along with a handful of more obscure breeds. Afghans and Salukis in particular are very closely aligned. Salukis are the smallest and most submissive of the group. Here is another shot of the pup, along with one of my Afghan.

Howdy Ron,
I see you all have survived so far LOL. How has the housebreaking and general transition gone? Have you been able to measure him to see how tall he is? Measure to the shoulder at the base of the neck. Has he been out to run yet? He should be fast even at that age. Good luck with him.

Howdy Clk Man,
No Greyhound in Salukis. Debate between Afghan and Saluki people as to which breed is older everything else falls in line after them.

Hey Frank -- Housebroken finally. He's 26", my old Afghan is 29". At nine months, I'm hoping he may get just a bit taller -- we'll see. I let him off lead out on a desert trail Saturday and he returned promptly when called on each occasion after getting about an eighth of mile out ahead. I would have never tried that at such a young age with any of my Afghans, but he has such a high fear factor, I was convinced he wouldn't stray too far.

He was running with a smallish (27-28") 2 y/o greyhound just yesterday stride for stride in our local 2 acre dog park -- it was a dead heat, though the greyhound outlasted him. Heck, he's just a pup, I was pretty impressed.

When should I expect his puppy coat to hit the road? Any idea?

DieselGuy53 12-21-2009 10:51 PM

I thought it was typo - Salaki's (pardon my ignorance)

Frank X. Morris 12-21-2009 10:52 PM

Howdy Ron,
Crap shoot on the coat. One of my males really didn't have a puppy coat. My youngest male still has some fuzz on the outside of his rear legs and he is 4 y/o. 18 months he should be rid of everything except he could have a little on the legs. You could ask Jeff when dogs in his line loose it. Is your pup still intact?
When he gets more adventuresome is when they really start getting away from you. If you want, go to my webpage in my sig. and check out Jazz. Those tri colored dogs all look the same LOL. Jazz is 27+ inches, I prefer my dogs to be about 25" and the females I like about 23-24". But that's me. Most people like their males to be 26-27". Think you might enter him in some running events?
