The Motorola Smartphones from ATT are a good buy, you don't get the fancy QWERTY keyboard, but the Windows operating system is nice and they work great as an Inet modem with a laptop if you really want to save some bucks. They have an upscale model called the Moto-Q which has all the fancy stuff, you might want to look at it, I bet it's a lot cheaper than the Iphone.

Older moder, but the Motorola Qs were great phones.

What is your budget?

Two carriers, and a maker. Looks like you've ruled out iPhone (ATT) or the Motorola Droid (VZW). The new Google Nexus One, on T-Mobile could be for you. It's an HTC built Android 2.1 Snapdragon powered mobile.

Wife likes her Blackberry thru US Cellular.

STAY THE F*** AWAY FROM ATT, IMO.

Lawrenceville, GA seems to be a mixed bag when it comes to reception.

I like my iphones, but one of my kids has a blackberry curve that she likes better (but it's not cheap).

If you don't have a specific phone in mind, pick a carrier first and see what they have available that meets your needs.

Most people i have talked to suggested Sprint. My home phone and ISP is AT&T. Don't know if i can get a good deal with them.

It really depends where you live, each of the networks have good and bad areas. Verizon is probably the best coverage overall, but that doesn't mean anything if it's not good where you are. I have ATT, which works well where I travel (including atlanta) but is (reportedly) terrible in NY and SF due to high demand on the data network. Sprint and T-Moble are smaller, but they might have good coverage where you need it. Talk to people in your area.

T-Mobile's unlimited data/voice plan seems to be the pricebuster. $50/mo for unlimited talk $80 unlimited talk & data, including text?

My guess would be T-Moble or Sprint, call them all and ask.

Of course, in telecom . . . their idea of "unlimited" is not what the dictionary thinks.
