It's time to get those poor people off that island. Relocate them to our backyard (the midwest?) and bring them into American society. Helping them stay where they are is enabling. Those people might like Haiti but clearly, Haiti does not like them.

Don't we have a forum member here who lives in Port Au Prince? I remember coming across his name and saw he lived there, moved from Canada to Haiti if I recall?

Plus SOCOM and the PR National Guard are already on the scene, so is the USAF. The problem is: when they get there, where do you find a place to land your aircraft, stock stuff-keep looters away, set up your hospitals? You gotta clear out rubble first

An article said the people were upset that the aid was not quickly forthcoming. Is this anger over lack of things they are entitled to? All aid is charity with no expectation of entitlement.

I was moved by Bush and Clinton speaking on the matter last night on the tube. Bush gets a chance for a do-over on Katrina. Clinton has got the real stuff. Dude has some flakiness around the edges but he can pull it off.

This will be some kinda real time drama. What were the stories being beat to death by cable news just before this happened? I forget . . .

Well put. People could easily get hurt trying to pass out water.

I've been a little put off by the entitlement stuff. One can hope for compassion but one cannot demand it, or well, one can but it makes it less likely you'll get it.

Most of the people and society of Haiti are low on the list of them likely to respond with aid to a natural disaster in a neighboring country. As a result, they have little ability to do it for themselves to any extent or to facilitate the receiving of outside aid. We create our own reality.

How so? He is not in charge of walking a dog in Haiti. He was POTUS. I don't care what he does in Haiti. If Katrina was a screw up, even if he parted the seas in Haiti, it cannot make up for it.

But a chance for any redemption – I agree. Not a chance. Not here anyway.

With perhaps the exception of: “If” Katrina was a screw up, I’ll mark the calendar as another rare day I actually agree with you on something.

They both (GWB and WJC) get credit for going and trying to do something, even if it is mostly symbolic.

i think they are just amazingly desperate. put yourself in their shoes for a sec, and then thank fate of whatever deity you choose to believe in that you weren't born there. the children ,especially deserve better. no? they're guilty of nothing.
