Is there an Optomotrist in the house?
I went to the movies tonight, and saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D.
I was expecting mind blowing, duck to avoid, awesome 3D effects. WITH the 3D glasses, it was a normal regular movie. Without, it was a bit blurry, but my eyes easily focused to...you guessed it, a regular normal movie...what gives??

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one...started to feel like a freak for a while there...
I suppose it could be something related to astigmatism making a certain percentage of the population immune..like Hypnosis....sucks... Good movie tho..

I've got astigmatism and always had the 3D-ness work for me, though I've never thought it was mind blowing. I do know that you need about 10 minutes of JUST wearing those funky glasses for your eyes to adjust so if you were fiddling with them or anything that might have caused your eyes to not adjust properly.

I was wondering if it is a color blindness issue of some sort so looked it up. It is not, but I did find this -

I've given in to my gf's pleading to see that movie in 3D tonight. I'll report back to all of us who are less than gifted in the eyesight area.

It seems that every 5 or 7 years someone tries to do "another 3D movie". They usually bomb. Some people can see it. Some are let down. Because of all the "weirdness" in this one, it will probably do pretty good.
Now they are talking about a special player and format? Reminds me of the Laser Disc (only probably much worse).

I dont have anything wrong with my eyes... Just when I was smaller I got my head smashed on a Flag stone fireplace and my eyes have worked differently then most. I have good vision in both and dont need glasses, but the 3D stuff has never worked for me. Even the ones that dont have the R/B(g?) lenses in them fail to work

I went to see Alice in Wonderland this weekend and the 3d was great, no problems seeing it at all. The movie itself? ehh.....pretty typical overproduced big-studio CGI production.

When we saw Avatar, we went for the 3D version. It was great with all the jungle stuff "surrounding" your field of view.
Then again, we sat in front - theater was packed and we got in late. Is there a difference in 3D viewing, when viewed up close or from one of the balcony/top row seats?

I believe the "3D" refers to "three drinks". Have three drinks before you see the movie and it's a lot better.

I'm not an optometrist, but I can explain this phenonea that you experienced in the movie theater.
The studios have been experimenting with 3D effects for quite a while now. Obviously back in the 60s the 3D effects were in your face and a bit nauseating. This can be still be seen in the rides at Universal Studios and maybe MGM in Disney World (never been there). The 3D in movies nowadays is subtle. Kind of a nice touch instead of , "holy crap a sword come off the screen!" They're getting ready to prep movies and shows for the next gimmick in Television 3DHDTV.

I was experimenting with the lenses from our glasses. Some interesting effects to be had when doubling them up, I may try some photographic tests to see what I can do with those filters.

the 3D effect is more for a depth of field which worked very well. I will say the 3D glasses they "rent" to you aren't the greatest. Dichroic lens 3D glasses are the best to have. That if the projector is using the same setup that the Dolby glasses will work with.
A friend of mine said they were handed out to spectators for a 20 minute sneak peek of Avatar at Comicon. |
