Do realize that I know of techs that make it their mission in life to report you if you modify it in any way. Say a downpipe, chip or something like that. I have been denied by GM and I know the Ford people that will try to void your warranty if you do anything like snowplowing or excessive towing. For $4100,
the waranty is as long as he is in business. No denial reasons. He fixed a trans for someone 6 times in the last 8 years. Reason for breaking? Racing and pulling.

Luck is with me too, When I bought this truck a month or so ago, it came with a warranty so it's still covered on the power train.

Make sure it isn't modded at all. Otherwise, they could deny the warranty. Get it checked out NOW!!

tranny slip is usually caused by clutch packs wearing out or apply bands wearing out.

Warranty was in place AFTER the mods were done, this is thru the dealer that I got the truck from, they knew what it was when they warranted it

But as I have said before, what happens today might not mean squat tomorrow. Tomorrow, the warranty company might just decide it is against policy.

True, having a trusted Truck trans shop local here look at it, they've done a ton of good work for me

mines factory correct except for the radio and tires. I never felt a need to change anything. This rig is from the factory with a tow package, even if I tow over loaded I dont see how they would ever prove that on a lift. If I get another 150K from this trans I will replace it again, there really isntanything out there now to compare with the excursion to replace it

What tow package? They come with the hitch. If that ever gets replaced, you must use a Ford unit since, IIRC, only one company will make one for it and it is expensive. It is part of the frame structure and gives it rigidity. For that reason, if you go to most hitch places, they won't have one to fit it.

The hot trans fluid goes to the radiator and then to an air cooler. Often, we have found it adequate for towing as long as you are moving at a relatively good speed. Start stop, not so good. We have replaced the tiny one with a cooler from the 6.0 liter truck with good results.

With traffic these days there is always stop and go, I sat in 8 hrs traffic from Atlanta to FL border, thats usually a 3hr drive. Will the different trans cooler be ammunition to deny the warranty?

Without knowing what trans cooler you have, it is hard to say. For instance, if you put 3 of them in series and they say "Well, you caused a fluid restriction and that burned out the clutches.", they might make it stick. OTOH, if you put say a trans cooler from a Ford 6.0L truck, it would be way harder to make a case. The 6.0 cooler upgrade is a huge step up from the old 7.3 one. Even the V10 one is bigger. Size matters in this case.

I think you got the standard truck with the cooler. All of them come with the hitch since that is part of what gives it structural rigidity.

Someone has done this mod to our Excursion, took it in today they said there's some play in it and it should be replaced or rebuilt.... so i told them to call the warranty place who said rebuild it. so in about a week and a half I'll atleast have a new transmission

SWEET. I had to pay for the mod. I installed it but I had to buy a 6.0L trans cooler and install it. I ditched the tiny thing that came stock.

See post 3 for the size comparison

to OP, thats great you're getting a new trans.

as far as the current cooler to be honest, I have no idea. I like the idea of a bigger cooler though, I will definitely do this once we buy the wife a new car and I can have some down time. I want to replace all of the shocks and steering damper, maybe even the springs and bushings too and give it a thorough cleaning underneath. I was told when I bought it, and of course I have no idea what is standard and what is extra, that the gear ratio is lower and the trasns cooler was bigger along with the prewired brake and hitch. I think now the brake wiring and the hitch are usual, but I will check the cooler to see if it looks like the picture. As far as the gear ratio I definitely do not get the 19 MPGs my friends with 7.3L get but Ive never compared RPMs

I'm going to say that unless someone like me or another tweaker got their hands on it first, you have the little cooler. If you need to, I can give you some pointers on what hardware you need.

I'd get Bilstiens but make sure of what you want to do first. If I had to do it all over, I'd have changed to F350 springs then get the shocks that work for the F350. A great upgrade is to V code and B code springs that come form an F350. If your Ex wanders, the Landyot Radius Rods work.

The thing is prewired for a brake controller. You have to insert the fuse and supply the controller. Recommend Tekonsha P3

I SUSPECT you have the 3.73 gears.
