Back from Texas!

OK, I've been back for 4 days now. I've been recovering from my vacation, and catching up on work. I think I'm to a point I can get back to work on the SD this coming weekend.

Anyway, I thought I'd post some pics from the trip for you guys. I'd like to thank you guys for the tips on things to do. We never made it to Austin because of the weather, but we did have fun at the Petroleum Museum as you will see in the pictures.

Here we are headed south down the 99 toward Bakersfield.

We drove into the night stopping in Lake Havasu to look at the London Bridge.

After the bridge it was back on the road. these pics are from the rest stop just before the New Mexico border on I-10

Back on the Road again.

Border Patrol check point just past El Paso on the I-20

WE MADE IT to the hotel in Midland. 25hrs on the road! non stop! (other then pee and petrol breaks)

My friend Misty lives in Stanton, just east of Midland, she was our reason to visit. She invited us over for fireworks with her family on the 3rd, and then again with friends on the 4th. lots of fun with fireworks.
Here is Misty.

Here are some fireworks.

Misty gave us the nickel tour of Stanton. with the highlights being and old monastery and the drug store.

We took Misty and went of a field trio to San Angelo to see Ft. Concho.

the fort is the home of the telephone museum.

Heres my moms puppy... 4mo mastiff.

We went to the Alamo

and to the Tower of the Americas.

and the River Walk

Sadly time spent with my mom wasn't the best due to some bad news... its a long story which I may post about later, but for now lets just say there was a damper on our stay with my mom.

On the way back we went to Roswell, NM

Then back on the road for home. stopping to see the cool stuff.

We staid the night in Flagstaff then went to the Grand Canyon.

Then to the Hoover Dam

Then to Vagas

Then we drove all night back to Sacramento... only stopping for Diesel in the middle of no where... but look what was behind the gas station.

Glad you got home safe, but we here in Texas wish you had left the women.

Great pics, Nik! Sorry to hear there was some bad news while on your trip, though.

I'm trying to psyche the Mrs. up for a cross-country drive with the kids next summer but I haven't had much success yet. Maybe just the oldest two and I.

Swamp, My dad took me on a road trip to Cabo when I was 8yo because my mom wouldn't go with when I was 11 we made the same trip with the whole family, I think he had to prove to her that I could survive the trip.

Now you know what they were talking about in that old Country song where they sing 'I saw miles and miles of Texas....'

The odd mechanical things at the Petro Mu in Midland were interesting to even my wife. The old Pumpjacks there are a good example of the lengths people will go to in order to get oil out of the ground.

By the way, I have worked in fields where sucker-rod pumpjacks were still in use. It is very eerie at night to hear all of that creaking and groaning going on. People who live near them don't mind though as it is the sound of money going into their pockets.

I am glad you had a good time. Next time.... Austin!
