I wish my dad was as caring as yours.
I wish my Dad was "Alive" when I had my wisdom teeth removed.

Hellllloooooo Everybody!

Well a couple of days have passed.

Never had to take the pain meds they prescribed, so far. The worst it ever got was when I woke up on Saturday morning. My bottom right jaw area was sore and it did not help that I ended up sleeping on it.

I have been eating soups, jello, and over-cooked (ultra soft) pasta.

After every snack/meal I gargle some tap water and then follow with a quick shot of ACT mouthwash, then I gargle with water again. CLEAN!

My mouth still feels kinda funny in the bottom right corner, but I think I am on my way up at this point.

Funny thing... I only had 3 wisdom teeth. top 2 and the bottom right one. The top two were easy to remove as they were simply growing straight down.

The bottom right tooth however was the weird one. it was growing in at a 45 degree angle and was pushing up against the next tooth. I think that is why my jaw is sore there since it probably required the most amount of digging and cutting.

Anyways, I am very thankful to my parents and my insurance company. Total cost of the surgery was ~$1200. Out of pocket was $155.20, which was paid the beforehand on the morning of the surgery.

Yeah it kind of sucks. I had all 4 taken out about 5 years ago, did it in the morning and worked a 4-9 shift afterwards, never took anything stronger than Advil.

I tolerate pain pretty well though.

I read in the newspaper a few years back, about a ranch foreman in Texas, that hires migrant workers, having to rush a worker to the E.R. The man had a toothache..and not having insurance ..decided that he would do his own extraction. His pardners got him drunk ,,then gave him a 25. caliber pistol. At which time , the 'patient' proceeded to shoot his own tooth out. He missed the tooth that was giving him problems, and the bullet went thru the roof of his mouth...and took his eye out..Nice~

I still have all 4 of mine. My lower right one is impacted, used to bother me at times but hasn't for many years now.
Every time I go to the dentist they always tell me they want to remove them. I always tell them no freekin way!
They tell you how bad it is to keep them but they never tell you about the serious side effects that can arise.

A good friend of mine sent her son to have his taken out. I asked her why she did it and she said her dentist told her they needed to come out!
I asked her what SHE thought and she didn't have an answer.

I'm 46 now and will never have them taken out unless I absolutely have to.

Get them out!!

My father had one that was pushing to an other tooth, didn't bother his also.

When it finally started to bother him he had it removed at the age of 73. It turned out he had developed cancer in his lower yaw. According to the surgeon caused by the wisdom tooth.

After may operations, where they eventually removed half his lower yaw, he died from it at 77.

Your dentist payed a lot for his education, if he says take them out, take them out. Just because they don't hurt at the moment doesn't really mean much.

I got mine done in the dental clinic at St. Louis U when I was in college...they were cheap but the guys were hacks. I had to drive myself home from having them cut out, and wound up clipping the stitches out with a nail clipper several days later instead of going back to have them removed. I used the cap from a BIC pen to dig food debris out of the holes for years before they filled in.

Get well soon!
I beat you, KarTek, sir! ^_^ I went to the dentist for a normal checkup and they figured my age and something else...I dunno...something alerted them that I should have mine taken out soon...so they took an x-ray...and I was all nervous because everyone told me that it hurts...so they get the x-ray out, put it on a light and let me look at it...I dunno what I'm looking for...but they point to an area where there is no teeth and tell me to look there...

I am confused...why do they want me to look at the area RIGHT next to my teeth where there is nothing. The lady tells me "your wisdom teeth are supposed to come in right there" and I'm like "uh huh..." because I'm stupid and she goes and says "there's nothing there" I figured out that much. So I'm kinda thinking maybe they'll grow in later? But she goes and says "You don't have any!" ...YAY! So I never had them, and never will. Supposedly I am to "breed" with another who has never had them so that we may have ultimate non-wisdom teeth children *rolls eyes*

But it really sucks for the people who do have to do it. I am sorry for all of you, but I'm glad you are all done with it. Particularly the OP! I'm glad your dad was so helpful and you didn't have to go through so much pain. Soon you can go and enjoy your life and not worry about those wisdom teeth of yours. I think its dumb that people have to get wisdom teeth...and then have to have them taken out as well. No fair. But I guess everything is done now. No one has to worry about it anymore? Most people posting here seem to be all set...and for those that still have to, I'm sorry and good luck!

Keep flossin'!

2 hours after having mine out I was helping a friend car shop. I was bending over to show this sleeze bag salesman that the car had been hit and repaired poorly, when blood came pouring out of my mouth. I had cooling peel and stick strips on the side of my face that looked like giant band-aids, so I'm sure it was memorable for him.

The pain didn't bother me so much as the taste of blood, especially the dried blood after sleeping overnight.
