Damn, that's too bad. I was a big fan of the show, my oldest two and I used to watch every episode. I always wondered when his health issues would finally catch up with him. Apparently it was right about now.

Thoughts and prayers are with the Harris clan.

Unfortunate, but that poor guy was a walking bad health ad. Visibly stressed, chronically sleep deprived, looked 10+ years older than he was and chain-smoked. Poor guy, hard way to live.

All of those guys seem to be hard working, hard smoking and hard drinking and, needless to say, their diet sucks. But I suppose in their world there are so many other things that will kill you what difference does it really make? You must really develop a "live in the now" mentality in that line of work.

so sorry to hear about this. a great television show about some of the hardest working people in the world. ICE COLD weather conditions, an unforgiving sea and sometimes not that much money for what they do. they get their life insurance in advance. tough job. time for an Alaskan King Crab bake. yes sir.

That is so true...

I don't think I could do what they do up there. My friend is devastated. It is really sad, but as you said just by looking at him, you could tell he was going to go soon

That sucks, but the guy was a walking bad health add.

I guess in that line of work something is going to get you sooner or later so you might as well live in the now. He had a good life.

He was pretty young too, only 53. He was my favorite guy on the show. Some people can get away with smoking a lot but some don't.

Poor guy drinking crates of Redbull and smoking a couple packs a day coupled with the stress of his job must have been awful on him. Him and Sig Hansen were my favorite guys on the show. RIP Captain Phil

He made his dietary bed. Now he sleeps in it. Permanently.
Life is full of choices. Seems he made a lot of bad ones regarding his health.

remember the episode from 2008 when capt phil had a huge blood clot go through his heart and into his lung? he thought he had a broken rib, but it was, or should have been, a wake up call for him. i was very sad when i saw he was chain smoking again once he returned to the show.
