Talking MercedesShop 7 years ago

Seven years ago MercedesShop was only a year old. We had less than 1,200 members but already had nearly 27,000 posts.

Here's what it looked like then

I wonder how many of the members from 7 years ago are still around...

Here's the Top 100 member list from that time.

I joined in 2001. Funny thing though, it took six years to finally solve each and every one of the problems I posted in my very first thread!

Wow....I'd forgotten what the main page looked like. 170 posts...Doesn't seem like it. I think I was member 600something or 900 something...not sure.
In trying to remember major events, I remember when WDurrance passed away...a sad day; I remember reading requests for more sections...I think lighting was mentioned alot back then. I remember being able to read ALL of the threads in the Tech section (yes, ALL of them).

You've come a long way (baby!)....and it's been a great ride!

Thank you!

-Larry

Wow, and to think if I had joined, way back then, the same year I bought my first MBZ, I'd be like member number five, or something.

Quite a few of those names look familiar. Been around for 5 years and this is my all time favorite site, don't have the posts to reflect 5 years, but I have learned a TON. BTW, Bill, think you can make the GTG in Chambersburg ? Would like to meet you for sure.

I was fortunate enough to meet not only Bill and his beautiful wife, but Donnie (Benzmac) Drummins as well. It was back in October of 2003. I wish it had been under better circumstances though. I was driving my 1990 350SDL rodbender from Michigan moving down to Florida. My car had some trouble and lucky for me I was near Atlanta. I called up MB Autowerks (Bill and Donnie's shop) and got directions. They fixed me up and I continued my move south.

I wish everyone had a chance to see their shop. It was immaculate. so clean you could eat off the floor.

Anyways, I thank fellow member Larry Delor for educating me about this site. It has helped me out quite a few times.

As Larry stated, back then you could actually read all of the NEW posts for the day. They would fit on the first page.

Thanks, Bill for the great site. I'm still waiting for someone to actually follow thru with having MBSHOP grill badges made for us.

I recognize a lot of the names on that list, a lot of those guys are still around.

Thanks Bill.

I joined 9 months later, just after purchasing a pristine '01 560SEL, I was "w126".

When did the "OD" open? I don't recall...

That's cool - time flies indeed!

I squeaked into the Top 100 - no.99!

Those early days were great. The forum was so open and friendly. Still is, for the most part. When you have this many members, there are bound to be a few... :fork_off:

We had a MercedesShop gathering at MB Autowerks nearly 5 years ago.

Do you see anyone you know?
