Jeep Cherokee

So now some one gave my daughter a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. There are some issues like none of the electric windows work but I just found that the ground wire for the switch panel in the drivers door doesn't show any continuity to the body of the vehicle. Next is check all the brakes and rebuild as necessary.
It's not perfect but for free what the heck.

Does anyone know of a good Cherokee forum?

I recently gave a 92 to charity. The drive train seems to hold up OK, but everything else on the car was falling apart.

It wasnt just this one either... a basic google came back with reams of posts on the same type of post.

Found out the hard way there isnt a blocking diode in the common battery circuit....

You're discussing the Grand Cherokee, TNbob... Agreed, not so good.

The Cherokees of the 1980s-2001 with the 4.0 inline 6 were proven rugged vehicles. As they got newer more chrysler plastic fantastic quality was put in, but the drivetrain remained the same.

I rode in an early 90s model that had recently turned over to 400k. Original motor she claimed.

Last Friday I sold a '99 I purchased at auction 158k and it still ran like brand new.

Cherokees are excellent SUVs, but get eaten pretty easily by the rust and aren't the most comfortable to ride in. Grand Cherokees are just plain awful, too many common problems to post.

Rust isn't a big issue around here.

The drivetrain in my 92 Cherokee was pretty sturdy, but the rest of the car was really a complete POS. It was still running fine when I got sick of messing with it and gave it away.

1993 Cherokee radio problem

I installed an AM/FM/CD player in my daughter's Cherokee about eight years ago and it has worked fine until now. Currently, the radio plays until you engage one of the following:

Cigarette lighter
Brakes (brake lights)
turn signals

When you disengage these items the radio comes back on but with reduced volume. The headlights/tail lights do not cause a problem.

Any ideas?

I wanted to check with this forum before moving to the mudslingers.

Thanks,

If anyone knows about these cars I have a problem. This car has electric door locks and if you push the central door lock button you can hear all of them trying to lock but they never actually lock, any ideas?

How hard is it to manually lock the doors? Is it hard to turn the key to lock them?
The reason I ask is my '99 Suburban had the same issue. The actuators would move, but the locks were so stiff they would not lock the doors. I had to open the door panels and grease the lock mechanisms. Once I did that the power locks worked again...
