MS Office requires a key to use after the trial period is up. If you bought the program you should have the key on the box. If you downloaded it you should have received the key in a email. If you got it from your school I do not know how that works. When I got one through school office did not ask for a key as it was a full release version.

If you got it from school, when you loaded it, you would have been required to type in the key. You need to keep that key # as it may ask for it again as it has.

MS give something free? Lol.... You're a funny man. Just kidding with you. No, it's not free. You have MS Works on there that is a stripped down version of Office. If you are just doing basic stuff it should work fine. If you still want the full version of Office, you will need to pay for it after the trial version lapses. If you know any kids going to school, MS is giving them Office at a dirt cheap rate. Other than that I believe there are open source/free ware/share ware programs out there that are quite good. I have an older versio of office so I do not know of some alternatives but perhaps someone will chime in with some ideas if you are interested.

Hope this helps.

unfortunately, my daughter encountered the same thing.

She bought a new laptop and the salesman told her that it came with MS office. She told him she needed it for school. The salesman didnt inform her that it is ONLY a trial version that expires after so long. Now her laptop is asking for a product key and she doesnt have the money to purchase it.

Where can she inquire about that special "dirt cheap" pricing for students?

Microsoft includes a 3 month trial of office with most PC's now, and then you have to buy a key to keep using it.

Have her delete all the MS Office crap. Open Office is a legitimate, free, open source replacement sponsored by Oracle (was Sun forever and ever, they just got bought by Oracle).

www.openoffice.org

She'll be able to open, edit, save, etc. etc. etc. any MS Office document (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

If the OS linked the extension for the image files to use Picture Manager, which is part of the Office Suite.

Check here to see if your daughter qualifies for the disscounted version Office from Microsoft:

MS site

It appears that dirt has become a bit more expensive since I bought mine. According to the MS site, it will now cost $80, but that is less than normal cost which is $150 from them.

X2 for open office

I used to "have" to work in Excel occasionally for work and sometimes spread sheets wouldn't open with MS products - even though they'd been made in MS on the same machine:- I never had a problem getting MS stuff to work in Open Office.
