Does undercarriage need greasing after lots of rain?

Hey all, finally made it to Texas!!!!!

Now in Austin and Tropical Hermine is pretty much on her way out, it was raining almost nonstop since yesterday morning and my 300E was soaked down to the chassis with all the driving I did during the storm. After all this rain do I need to grease, check, clean or do anything?

Just want to make sure she stays in as best of shape as I can keep her with an environment that now produces strong weather.

I would strongly suggest having a close look at the trunk, interior and engine bay "weep" drains. In the trunk and interior, you have to lift the carpeting to get to the big rubber grommets that have the weep holes. Make sure that they weren't clogged up with debris or dirt. In the engine bay, the drains from the sunroof come down the A-pillar and empty into the space behind the front wheels. There are also weep grommets around the encapsulated hood areas, like near the battery and the master cylinder.

Awesome, thanks MTI I will check all the weep drains made sure they're still good, anything that would need greasing? Or am I ok on that?

I'd be concerned if the rubber boots covering CV joints were torn and exposed them to water, but I doubt that the rain had much effect on any other chassis lubrication. Your vintage car used specially formulated wax in boxed in areas as part of the anti rust program, but I don't believe it is owner serviceable.

Alright, cool haha it's crazy the 300E is considered vintage LOL Yeah I'll be checking those weep holes for sure, thanks again!

According to Mercedes, this year the W124 qualified for "Classic" status, which means that you can get support from the MB Classic Center.

after experiencing one too many axle boot failures, I have taken to spraying them once per month with Mother's Protectant for Rubber Vinyl and Plastic. after I use up the Mother's I'm switching to 303 Aerospace Protectant sprayed on the boots once per month. both products are very good and will help prolong the life of the axle boots.

I thought most MBs were "self lubricating"? The telltale signs on the garage floor confirms this...

The often unacknowledged feature of many Mercedes gaskets and seals.

That's an awesome idea, I will totally do that, can this be purchased at an auto parts store?

I believe the Mother's Protectant - "Long Lasting Protection Rubber - Vinyl - Plastic" is available at most auto parts stores. it seems to be doing a good job on the rubber axle boots.

I bought the 303 Aerospace Protectant (this stuff is UN BELIEVABLY GREAT!!!) at a marine store. I've been spraying it on the dashboard of both cars and the door panels every other month and they look GREAT!! also, it protects Rubber, Vinyl Fiberglass, Tires, Plastic, Leather, etc from UV rays from the sun (or so it says...).
