2010 Punkin' Chunkin'

Anybody planning on going to the 2010 Punkin' Chunkin' competition this year (this up coming weekend) in Delaware? I've been wanting to go for years but it seems nobody else I know is interested in watching strange contraptions fling gourds.

I'd love to go. Its close, and I love the creativity.
However, it requires a bit of advance planning, and I have a conflict--my grandson is coming for the day so his mom can run a computer gaming conference at the local CC.
Maybe next year.

If anyone does go, It would be great to have next year's date posted so I can make plans.

If it were closer I'd be all over it! I'm all about strange contraptions flinging gourds! I'll have to resort to watching it on Science/Discovery again.

I find the centrifugal ones the most fascinating, and even amazing that they work. There just seems to be so much more room for disaster, both to pumpkins and the spectators/operators, with them. Especially Bad to the Bone. It's amazing that thing just doesn't vibrate into little pieces!

that one is pretty sweet. 2-3 years ago they had this Centrifugal one built on a mid 50's' red semi, That one was pretty sweet too. Forget the name of it

We went to last year's. It gets pretty crowded and you can't really get up close since most of the contraptions are fenced off. The organizers are very strict about people not standing directly behind the line of fire, a good idea in case something breaks or snaps. The mechanical ones are much more varied in design and interesting to watch. In contrast, the cannons are so powerful, all you see is a puff of smoke, the pumpkin is long gone.

A bunch of us took bikes over in '04. good weather , good boat ride, good time.

Went again in 06. It's gone big time since TV discovered it. There was some talk a couple of years ago about them moving it cause the farmer sold the land to developers.
Air cannons are my favorites. A mile is a pretty good shot!
