President Obama made a surprise visit to Afganistan today. Here's his address to the troops.

If he took all that money he spent on the trip, fuel, security, etc, etc and used it to upgrade 5 Humvees with heavier armor, he'd have done more for safekeeping the troops than this "Rah Rah Rah" crap would have done.

Our presence in Af'stan is the doing of the previous president, who sent troops off to fight with those Humvees.

Point? What has it got to do with the subject besides you hate Bush? We all know that. Why didn't your congress do something, BTW? I would say that over 1/3 were Dem, right?

That would be you. If you care to dispute whether this arrival will do anything, feel free.

If this visit has substance, feel free to point it out. If it is all style and no substance, well....

You're just another Obama hater. I'm not gonna waste my time. Others that post here think it's great, and I agree.

Bush did do such a political stunt one Thanksgiving and no one seemed to be upset about it then.

It is called 'keeping up the morale of the troops'. I think he also had intended to have a one-on-one with Karzai.

You have no facts. Just your undying love for Obama. If you had any, you'd be tooting it all over.

I'm not a particular fan of BO, but I think that it is a good thing for the Commander in Chief to go support the troops.

What I find noteworthy is that the guy does something encouraging, then someone takes the time to post it here, and then a thread like this turns into hate speach.

Amazing.

I will now stand back and see what kind of hate speach comes my way. It's a guarantee that there will be some, I just don't know what it will be.

Not sure. Was it brought up at the time? I would say the more stupid thing was him going to see what Katrina did. A total waste of time and money but people prefer to see a show so they get one. I'm not even sure how much his "Mission Accomplished" flight cost.

My old boss figured it out. Every month, if we did well, he'd buy the top performers dinner with a part of his bonus. As he would say, "Words only go so far". Other supervisors would heap praises and what not. We'd bust our backs because he would buy the top performers food. But maybe you are right. Humans are like moths and get drawn to the bright lights.

Is the world of punditry criticizing the cost of this trip?

Agreed. However, my point is that instead of gracing them with his presence, how about sending them something more concrete? A well catered meal, perhaps. Better armor. More supplies. Something, anything quantifiable. Something useful. I think that would show more support than anything.

This is like my CEO flying in from Alaska and telling me how good a job I do. WGAS? Mail me a $200 gift card so I can take the family out for a good dinner. Buy the office a grill so we can grill out in summer. Take us out for a night on the town.

I eschew these pretty speeches and kind words. Keep them. Give me something I can use. Something I can feel in my hands. This is exactly like a friend of the wife's. Oh, she will tell you how grateful she is for your help and how much of a wonderful, kind soul you are. Anything concrete? Nah! What's the use?

This one kills me. While Katrina was the top story on the news, Bush was being LAMBASTED for NOT going to New Orleans immediately. The mainstream press hammered him because he flew by instead of landing. The reason for not landing, right or wrong, was that they said he didn't want draw attention and resources from the relief efforts.

I'm sorry, but people need to figure out if he went there or not.
