300E vs Yukon

Quote:
The crash, involving a Mercedes-Benz 300E and a GMC Yukon, occurred at about 7:20 a.m. at Chapman and Canyon View avenues, said Sgt. Jeff Bird of the Orange Police Department.

The incident occurred on the city's east side.

According to Bird, the Yukon was eastbound on Chapman Avenue while the Mercedes-Benz was northbound on Canyon View.

One of the vehicles ran a red light, Bird said.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was trapped in her car, and firefighters had to cut the driver's door to remove her, Bird said.

She was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with moderate injuries, Bird said.
As tore up from the floor up the w124 looks, the cabin looks ok.. Just another good reason why you don't run red lights.

Looks like the door was just stuck on the fender, not from the body bending.

Good to see the airbag still worked. Notice how the wood on the door has not splintered.

I'd sure feel safer in the Yukon.

Amazing the airbag deployed.

The W124 probably spun around and got smacked in the rear.

From what crash photos I have seen, and from chats I've had with my uncle who is a volunteer fireman, airbag systems continue to work for many, many years.

Heck before davidsfarm got banned form youtube he had a video where he had left an airbag underwater for 24 hours, and it still deployed when given some juice

The merc performed exactly as it should, the front end collapsed which absorbed the energy. Air bag went off to cushion the impact. Thus, very little of the energy of the impact was transmitted to the driver.
