The lies we are being told

Fact check time:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-07/bonds-show-why-boehner-saying-we-re-broke-is-figure-of-speech.html

Quote:
House Speaker John Boehner routinely offers this diagnosis of the U.S.’s fiscal condition: “We’re broke; Broke going on bankrupt,” he said in a Feb. 28 speech in Nashville.

Boehner’s assessment dominates a debate over the federal budget that could lead to a government shutdown. It is a widely shared view with just one flaw: It’s wrong.

You're right, give our position with China and our reliance on them buying our treasuries, we're well past broke and bankrupt'

Isn't it time for everyone to quit living in utter fear? According to the Right Wing, everything is apocalyptic. It's all bad. The conspiracy theories of Glenn Beck, the constant exaggeration and hyperbole of Hannity and the rest of the pantheon of GOP professional ranters, these congressional leaders constantly screaming that the financial sky is falling, isn't it all getting old now? The real truth is, America is a great country, and those who keep claiming that our best days are behind us and that we are all going to be ruled by Muslims, aren't they, well, full of s***t ? It's time for people to start seeing that their constant negativity is part of the problem, not the solution. The author makes a good point. If the sky was falling, the bond market would be going nuts. It isn't. We have manageable problems, a statement the fund managers seem to agree with. Isn't it time to start looking at the truth, and to stop listening to those pushing all the crazy talk?

The U.S. is ahead of China in export$$, and remains #1 in that area.
There is a reason why the Right Wing is selling fear-and U.S. citizens are buying it.

They are just trying to get votes and pray on people who have little or no education in economics past the high school level.

We do have a spending problem, a huge chunk of it is the middle eastern wars which will be winding down over the next few years. Also as the economy picks up steam over the next couple of years tax revenue will increase as will GDP.

The US government needs to raise taxes and reduce spending in a few places to get it under control. That's it really, its not that hard to do. Once its under control we should bring the debt down a bit, maybe 10%-20% and that would be a very comfortable level.

The drug addict seems to say that too. He is in a bad rut. His wife left him, his kids are brats, etc, etc. But in a few years, he will remarry, his kids will have gone and life is good. Don't count your chickens before they are hatched. I don't count them even after they are hatched and grown. Not even when you write me a check for them. I count them once the verified cash is in my hand. I know someone who owned 7 strip malls before the crash. Driving a brand new S-class. Currently he has had 5 foreclosed and 1 about to be and driving an older F150. He too believed in counting his chickens before they hatch. I didn't draw a salary or take a penny for 3 years after forming my company because I wanted to see it make money and stabilize before I touched the cash.

Not hard to do in theory but hard in practice. Who will take the cut is the question. No politician wants to give you his sacred cow for fear it makes his opponent look better. His opponent will promise that things aren't good but with a little tweak here and a push there we can have it all.

Excerpts

Quote:
“If an American family is spending more money than they’re making year after year after year, they’re broke,” said Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner.
How is this not true? If the only way you are keeping afloat is by accounting tricks and borrowing more, isn't that an issue?

Quote:
“You are never broke as long as there are those who will buy your debt and lend money to you,”
Isn't that how households get into financial trouble? Borrow till they are so stuck in debt they have to borrow more just to service what they have in debt?

I think that is the crux of the issue. People think that as long as they can borrow or somebody will fiance them, life is good. Didn't many homeowners do the same thing? Borrowed today on the house because they expect it to go up in price. As long as it does, nobody cares. When it doesn't, they lose their shirt.

Red face The lies we were told?

Just sayin'

"Obama orders CIA prisons, Guantanamo shut "

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Thursday moved quickly to undo a contentious Bush administration national security program, ordering the CIA to close down secret overseas prisons and the Pentagon to close down the Guantanamo prison within a year. The president also banned the harshest interrogation methods.

The CIA has used secret "black site" prisons around the world to question terror suspects, usually plucking them from one country and moving them to another where U.S. agents operated a prison. A senior White House source said the CIA will be allowed to continue these "renditions" but not to countries that torture and not to its own prisons.

With three executive orders and a presidential directive signed in the Oval Office Thursday, Obama started reshaping how the United States prosecutes and questions al-Qaida, Taliban or other foreign fighters who pose a threat to Americans.

The centerpiece order would close the much-maligned U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba — a complicated process with many unanswered questions that was nonetheless a key campaign promise of Obama's. The administration already has suspended trials for terrorist suspects at Guantanamo for 120 days pending a review of the military tribunals.

"We intend to win this fight. We're going to win it on our terms," Obama said of the war on terrorism. But he also said he didn't want to have to make a "false choice" between successfully waging war against terrorist organizations and hewing to U.S. human rights ideals in the process.

'Founding Fathers' cited
"This is following through not just on a commitment I made during the campaign but an understanding that dates back to our Founding Fathers, that we are willing to observe core standards of conduct — not just when it's easy but also when it's hard," the president said.

"We will be setting up a process" to figure out the logistics of closing down Guantanamo, Obama told reporters gathered in the Oval Office of the White House.

My point is that the lies being told are hurting our economy and our nationale morale. Hey, shouldn't you be in a bunker in Utah somewhere? IIRC, you are a big fan of apocalyism. What happened? Tired of the lies?

Bush's deficits were bad, evil, and the ruin of the country, but Obama's spending at ever increasing rates is good.

The high rate of unemployment is hurting morale. The apologetic tour Barry took hurt morale. The constant spending with no accountability by our government is hurting morale.

Pelosi's antics as speaker of the house caused more problems than this ever could.

Perhaps if your side were to get a grip, things would be better.
