NPR Executive (former) Gets Pranked on Video
From the Folks That Brought You Pimp Spy Cams
Schiller, then-president of the NPR Foundation and senior vice president for development, calls the Tea Party "xenophobic," "seriously racist people," who are "fanatically involved in people's personal lives." He goes on to say that the Republican party has been hijacked by the Tea Party and laments the demise of intellectualism, particularly in the GOP. |

This a truly ironic statement from O'Keefe.

I don't see why anyone should get into an uproar about this - he's entitled to his opinion just like the rest of us. I don't think NPR has ever hidden what it thinks politically.
There are many who'd argue that the Democrat Party was hijacked by the liberals and has been for a couple of decades; it hasn't been good for them either.

I live in an area that is crawling with tea party types. In my experience, he's absolutely right. Even if he's wrong, big deal. That O'Keefe character's videos have been widely shown to be made up for the most part anyhow.

Seems like another of these ginned-up Right-wing-o-verse news stories. I agree, why is this supposed to be important? That the guy has opinions? BFD.

Crying about " its only his opinion" misses the mark.
NPR is PUBLICLY funded; they represent ALL of us. They are not to program with an agenda.Clearly, they do have an agenda. As a side point, how does one measure intolerance? If you took his comments, and put them in a Tea Party person's mouth, you guys would all be upset about the lack of tolerance. His opinion that TP is stupid is the same ole same ole liberal playbook. Liberals always call conservatives "stupid" and never apologize. Must be because the intellectually superior liberals KNOW they are right. Play by the same rules.

NPR, PBS or the CPB, do not "speak for all of us" as a result of public funds. There are no such limitations on the grants. Many organizations get grants, but they do not represent "all of us."
However, NPR has often prided itself on being neutral in their programming. While the comments of one executive does not make it NPR policy, it is still contrary to the stated policy of the network. |

Didn't someone also say some new station was owned by Murdoch who leaned one way and therefore the station did too?

I would like to see them in a position where they accepted no money from the government; government funded media is never a good thing, too much political pressure and too much opportunity for the appearance of impropriety.
There was a compelling reason to fund "non-idiotic" media at one point in history, but we now have plenty of other sources of information and can completely ignore broadcast TV and radio. I wouldn't mind seeing NPR completely convert to internet radio, they could probably reach the vast majority of listeners without having to deal with either federal funding or federal regulation. Leave the broadcast airwaves to the clowns who have found their audience there. |
