You really didn't see anything political about your OP?

I never said any such thing. My point was that it was silly for MS Fowler to single out Obama in this thread about negative campaigning. I find it hard to believe that you would find my point to be controversial, although I admit that my previous post left room for you to come up with an insulting reply. My bad.

"We've already seen that"? I think you mean that you've seen it.

Now there are already ads - just saw one today- about how the republicans are doing horrible things to the middle class and in 2012 we need to stop them. It's not the president running the ad however- but it's not pro democrats or pro tea party or pro libertarians- it's anti republicans.
Your point being?

When Lyndon Johnson ran for Congress, legend says, he wanted to spread the rumor that his opponent was a pig-f&*ker. Johnson's campaign manager said, "Lyndon, you know he doesn't do that!" Johnson replied, "I know. I just want to make him deny it."

:D

Anybody?

Every time I see your screen name, it looks like it says tits. :D

What is an "oboput"???? :D

I don't like the negative ads at all. I generally pay no attention to them but try to keep my eye on the ball and figure out what the candidates really think.

O tries to avoid going negative I think.

Of course if the opposition tries to destroy SS and Medicare one has to point that out.

I really was not singling him out. I was using the assumption by some political types that he will go negative as a jump-off point for the discussion.

Somewhere in the negative campaigns is at least a sliver of truth about the target. I surely don't expect candidate "X" to come out and say the bad things he is or has done. That is the job of other guy. Of course, when the other guy says "X raised taxes (or any other action you don't like) every year he held some office, I expect candidate "X" to complain that the other guy is just going negative. Really, what other response can you put up if the other guy is in fact telling a truth about you? Campaigns have been nasty, negative affairs as long as the US has existed (and longer, really). I just look at all the information and try to discern the truth of the matter.

:D Is this the part of the OP's writing that was supposed to be "apolitical?" :D

Campaigning is advertising which is selling. Companies do not spend millions/billions on add campaigns just for the sake of blowing money. They will put their adds in front of test audiences to see their reaction. They uses science and psychology to sell products. Certain colors for me and others for women, same with shapes.

The adds do work on the people they are intended to work on.

No you didn't. If you did not want this to be a political discussion you would not have mentioned Obama. You made a very specific effort to make this political. Do not try and pee on my leg and then tell me it's raining.

MTI 07-01-2011 12:55 PM

Yes, silly him.

+1.

I never expect it could be so funny in Politics. I live in CA and if I want to be sure that my vote could make a difference then I need to move State. But I like it here.

A lot of American live in a cocoon and if you bombard them with negatives or lies then they will think it is the TRUTH.

Diesel4me 07-01-2011 03:40 PM

i'm all for negative campaigning. The worse the better is what i say.
