Sketchup 8 Ruby plugin Curviloft help
 

I have added several plug ins to my Sketchup 8 just fine..

but this one does not seem to be installing and working...

I think it has to do with unzipping...

I use winrar to extract.. but not sure about it..

I put folder with proper name into .. programs,google,sketchup,plugins ...

then download the ruby script and tell winrar to extract it to that folder..

then restart the computer..

but I can not find where this one " took "...

although if I check properties of that folder it shows the right size inside...

Also, this ruby requires another one to be installed.. Fredo6 or something like that.. which I did first...

any suggestions ?

I've never used the software - in fact this is the first time I've heard of it - but much like Firefox wouldn't you be adding addons via the software itself? It sounds like you are being too clever and doing too much for the software.

Well, what I'd do first is:
Check the file for viruses.
Then, I'd unzip or unrar into a folder on my desktop and look for a README, HOWTO or INSTALL documentation.
Copy or move the files to the proper directory as indicated in the README, HOWTO or INSTALL documentation.

I've never used Ruby but I do program in Python. They pretty much go hand in hand and work in much the same way.

A Ruby script is going to be a Ruby program. It will be expecting a Ruby command interpreter to be available - most likely in your path. If you have other Ruby scripts already running then it should only be a matter of putting it in the right place and resolving any other dependencies. The README or HOWTO file that should be included with the script should be able to help with any dependencies.

Army, I do suspect that you are correct.... but I have always had a problem with unzipping files...
I have installed several Ruby scripts into Sketchup but that was a month ago and I do not remember if I did something different then.

How do I check the file for viruses ?

No idea what an interpreter will look like.

Nothing else is running when I do those things...

As you're running Windows (I guess) you've got a virus scanner haven't you? Right click on the file and "perform XXXXX ENTER PRODUCT NAME HERE XXXXX virus scan"

Failing that mail yourself the file and get your email provider (such as hotmail or gmail) to scan it for you! => here you upload the file to hotmail say - mail to yourself - download file after they've performed their virus scan.

I'm surprised this google software hasn't got its own add-ons feature that does all of the unzipping for you. Before you go into the README files in the add on - check the handbook or online instructions for Sketchup.

Non Zipped Ruby scripts I do not think I have any problem with...

Curviloft plugin is still in beta. Expect difficulties.

Thanks Randy... I actually saw mention of that.... but the post was from 2010.... so I kinda assumed it had been finalized...
I am always glad to blame something other than my lack of knowledge on failure of computer things to work..
I just hate those ' tutorials' on Youtube which are silent... and after you watch them you figure out they are really a tease for going to their website....

On diesel topic ... I put oil into Sublett's engine and it ran out on the ground.... LOL
I am trying to get it out of car but it is just so hot...and family errands seem to take up all the day..
now with 1980sd doing that compressor upgrade I was thinking that having a virtual picture of the space available in there might be helpful for other compressor installers...

UPDATE.... I really think NONE of my Ruby Scripts I thought I had acquired for my Sketchup 8 work....
Now I am really bummed out...
but I did learn some things about sandbox meshes and such...
anyone know what I might have done wrong on the ruby script installs ?

Why did oil run out on the ground? That one was still a runner when it landed at your entropy workshop.

No matter, I have acquired another 240 with a decent engine for that 85' that the 5-speed came out of. But, given my inclination to screw with this stuff anymore, it probably will never get installed.

I'm going to finish my shop this fall and put in a decent effort to restore my TD for use as a beef delivery vehicle next summer. My F250 is taking about $130 a tank... adios profit.

Probably say bye to all the others once the TD is going. Not much time for that kinda fun anymore.

I don't know... it has been too hot to get under it... or pull it either one... and the tractor was sent to the dealer without my prior knowledge while I was using the spears for the gate and new Weldanpower projects... brought everything to a standstill..and they did not check with the dealer before hand... so it sat there a week before they even started working on it....
I too thought it was a runner ... so I was surprised it ran out.. hope it is just a rubber line.. it was not moved from the spot it was placed when the oil was put into it...
I can imagine that pickup does take a lot... I don't think I have seen it... what happened to that older pickup you had ... or am I imagining that one.... ? You brought some limbs for burning out in it ?

The old Toad (that F100 I hauled brush with) is a quasi-permanent artifact here on the farm...been parked under a tree for about 4 years now.

The F250 was Dad's. Mine now.

It's a 2002 model but only has about 98k mikes on it. Runs great...chipped and all, it is one bull hauling SOB. Light, it will get about 18mpg if you keep it under 70. Load it up and watch the gauge drop.

I was taking steers to La Grange for processing on a horribly windy day last March. Busting a +25mph headwind with the cattle trailer. Couldn't figure why I was using so much fuel...check the speedo and was running 78mph!!!!

Glass smooth, no strain, +24psi of boost into that headwind...it just does what you ask...for a price.

Have you got a ruby "environment" (I think they call it that!) working on your OS?
