Absolutely right. Which, IMO, explains why civilizations decline. When the civilization is young, it has to fend for itself. The weak get weeded out. When the civilization gets older, it becomes more egalitarian and decides that they can keep more weak links around. When that happens, the weak links increase in both number and weakness. At that point, the civilization gets too old and gets to die, much like an old man. No more use, die.

the unfinished, incomplete pyramid on the one dollar bill is symbolic of 'an incomplete building' or as some have said, 'the great experiment in self government' AKA 'a work in progress'. it appears the 'great experiement in self government' AKA 'a work in progress' is going south in a decidedly downward spiral......

I think it happens to all civilizations. When they get rich and sit back, they forget how to earn it and still want the same standard of life no matter what changes.
