Iran's nukes

Here is Mitt Romney from the most recent debate:

If we re-elect Barack Obama, Iran will have a nuclear weapon. And if you elect Mitt Romney, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.

Romney, Gingrich at GOP debate: We'd go to war to keep Iran from getting nuclear weapons - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
I am confident that Romney is spouting nonsense, but my only basis for saying so is that his claim was made at a GOP debate. In other words, I am going on the odds that what he says is nonsense. It is a strong statement, though. I imagine it will be effective with the voters.

Does anyone here know whether Romney has anything behind his bold claim? I am not well informed on Iran's nukes. Maybe nobody is.

So you believe that all we have to do is like BO does, just be nice to Akmadinjad and that will work?

Since George Bush was unable to stop Iran in it's relentless drive towards nuclear weapons, I don't see what exactly Romney thinks he can do. A war with Iran would be insanity. It would send oil prices into the stratosphere, and war with Iran, a country ten times the size of Iraq that would have the backing of Russia and China, would bleed us white.

If that is all that Obama is doing, then I'd say we need a new plan. I suspect, though, that his plan has other elements to it. I also suspect that the job will be more difficult since we were so kind as to remove Iran's primary rival for power in that region.

Lets face the facts boys, Bush invaded the wrong Ira_ country. Romney just wants to fix that error. You can't blame the man.

what we do is not important, there will come a time when the UN is still waffling that Israel will take care of the issue, they dont seem to have so much political correctness slowing them down. I would wager that if someone looked real hard Israel probably is getting a lot of new weaponry at rock bottom prices.......

Maybe he'll call on the ghost of Joseph Smith to smite the country.

As far as Iran getting nukes, they may, but their leadership isn't as crazy and/or suicidal as some Americans think. So it's unlikely that they'll be used. They already have chemical weapons, yet I haven't seen them used on Israel, because they suspect that retaliation from the West would be swift and nuclear.

(Not that I consider Israel, Iran, Saudi, Kuwait or Iraq to be worth the life of a single American soldier. F them all.)

What is the rest of his plan, apologizing on behalf of America?

America has a lot to apologize for. It generally takes more of a man to apologize and change their ways than to keep punching random people in the face.

It's easy to see whose side you're on.

The US's -- America simply can't afford to fight the entire world without either borrowing or devaluing. Possibly both.

And apologizing to the world is the solution?

Since we engaged in eight years of murder of innocent human beings while we backed vicious dictators, and as our financial institutions engaged in shenanigans that bankrupted the world economy, I'd give that one a "yes".
