My 2WD will just break 20mpg highway on Oregon D2.

He is on crack. You could get a nice 2500 suburban of the next generation or a Denali with the 6.0 Vortec with the same miles for less than his starting bid.

My '97 2500 Suburban would average 9 to 11mpg; when I rent a new suburban for work they do around 15mpg these days. If I can get a "new" one that does 26mpg I would buy it in a heart beat.

I wouldn't buy those numbers, even though it's not a bad looking truck. My 2003 Dodge can do 24 on the HWY (hand calculated) at 65 MPH, and that's with a much more efficient engine than a 6.5. As a point of comparison, I had a '77 2WD Blazer with a 5-cylinder Deutz engine that would do an actual 33 MPG HWY, but that was in the era of the 55 MPH speed limit. Realistically, that Sub. should do mid-teens around town and low twenties on the road.

One of the diesel mags got 30 mpg out of a Dodge 3500 once. I think those numbers are possible provided the vehicle is driven with a light enough foot.

well i can't see the door badge but if it's a 1500 or 1/2 ton sub it would have the 3.42 gears which could return mid 20's but 29 that boy is dreamin.

Those old diesel suburbans have quite a following; finding one like his with just under 100k miles and in the great condition in appears to be in is a 'find'. He'll get his money for that truck.

I wouldn't buy it; not my thing because I'd rather have a newer suburban than an older one. And, for the record, I just took my wife's 2011 Denali XL from Houston to Baton Rouge (LSU! LSU!) and got 17 mpg at 82 mph, with little tests of getting 20 mpg at 75 mph and we did so in absolute comfort and safety - can't say the same for the seller's old Suburban.

99 was the last year of that body style if I'm not mistaken. It's my favorite. I had a 93 1500 4x4 that consistently got 18mpg, dry or fully loaded. The only way the mpg ever went down was loading the truck with people/gear and pulling a 2 horse trailer. I miss that truck come to think of it.

Yes it was. It's also my favorite and I'm starting to look for one myself. I didn't know they still make the diesel in 99 though, I thought they'd dropped it a couple of years earlier. Interesting to hear about your experiences. I figure I'll get a 5.7 gas one and be happy if I get 15mpg highway.
