See if you can find a 280SL, if you liked the R107 but not feeding it.

This popped up kind of a long way away from me just now.

The guy says its really got the M110 engine in it. With the M103 ( a true 300SL) it would be quite economical. But those are really rare in this country.

Gone a full year and only put on about a thousand miles since. On my turbo. Reference sensors are the next target come Spring.

They'll bleed you to death. Even if you buy one with thousands and thousands of dollars in service receipts. Parts costs are as bad as the 911.

I love it too much to get rid of it. I don't regret the day I purchased it. And they will probably bury me with it.

Go for 911 you will never regret it. look long and hard and you could find a real good one. The pleasure of owning and driving one is worth it.
I still miss my last 911....still looking for a good one to show around and I would not hesitate. Once you drive/live with 911 for a couple months you will understand what it is all about. I've been blessed to drive many exotic cars and I've owned few Porsche's IMHO nothing drives like a Porsche.
No wonder they never changed a lot from the original concept 40+ years and still getting better all the time.
Good luck

Did you directly transition from a 911 to a w140? If so, talk about culture shock!

Caution

Hey Ben,

A little OT, but be careful what you show up driving when you go to do someone's tax return. A fancy car, even an old one, will draw comments. People don't want to think you are "doing better" than them.
Long time ago, I went to meet a prospective client and need a car so I borrowed a Datsun 300Z from a girl in the office. First thing the guy said was "Fancy Car" In the end, I never did business with him. My former partner used to raise eyebrows when he went to visit clients in a red 450slc.

I can sympathize with most of the comments in this thread and feel right at home. My 300CE cost me a small fortune this year. Easily what it's worth was sunk into it this year. Some dealer work, some indie work.
Got to drive in a new C350 and E350 for a couple of weeks each though. Nice cars.

it's fine line, isn't it?

the Volvo 240 wagon I had was perfect for the image.

a well kept w123 is even better. i think.

FWIW, my friends 944 turbo was nicknamed sparky....

It had problems with fuel leaking. It eventually erupted in a magestic ball of flames.

Nope, I've owned both cars for almost 3 years. The only reason why the Porsche had to go was demand from the "better" half but since then she is gone so I am looking for the next one I mean next Porsche 911

How about a real 911 that's air cooled??

Personally I'm not a fan of the 944. Not enough bang for my buck. Less performance, prestige, and value with the same if not more problems than the 911. For the money a nice one would cost you I'd rather have a Miata.
