Another phone scam...
The down side of working at home is that I have to deal with a lot of solicitors. Most recently, I received 3 or 4 calls from an automated machine referencing Colson Gamble and Associates. The sound very official and say that there is a problem with one of my checks and that I can call them directly or have my attorney call them at 1-877-908-2953 to resolve the matter.
I googled this number and it sure looks like a scam to me: 877-908-2953 / 8779082953 Apparently they try to intimidate you by telling you that you have some financial problem and the only way to make it go away is to pay them - apparently some people will pay them just to make it go away.... Scumbags...

I've had a dealing with a company such as this in October, telling me that my bank returned a check to their client, and that I needed to settle up with them...I haven't written a check in nearly 8 years, paying only with cash, money order, or by card.
I ended up telling them that I was sending their information to the FBI for further investigation. At least they are calling my cell phone, instead of my home. It's difficult to track a cell number back to an address.

I'd call my bank IF I had someone call me to let me know they have a problem with a check that I wrote. I'd also ask the caller to read off a few items on my check that I know is on there and isn't obvious to folks that even know me...
If I'm getting a phone call from someone pretending to be "so and so" - I'd tell them to PSUTA and send me a certified letter before they could expect any further dealings with me. As I said before, I know where I write my checks to...I ALWAYS have the money to cover said checks so I know that IF I should get a call like this, I'll be more than happy to arrange to have them meet me somewhere...somewhere where the law can clamp down on their sorry @5535...

some time ago, I saw a tv show about identity theft. they said the number one way people's identity is stolen is off information that is imprinted on their checks. They write a check at the grocery store, store clerk is part of an identity theft gang who then takes the information off the check and off it goes.....
