Errare humanum est. Derailment is relative. Some folks just enjoy to pound away in triple digits of replies about nothing more than the most trivial.

I sure as **** will. As a former combat soldier, this is an unprecedented action in an active combat zone. Can't trust the afghan soldiers? Of course we can't, if anyone bothered to read, there are many reports of our "allies" killing us & NATO troops quite often, all the while wearing the Afghan national uniform. SECDEF Paneta there? Cool, certainly a need for NO weapons for the Afghanis, considering. But our guys? Totally unacceptable. Sounds like the general received orders to come up with a "good reason" to disarm loyal American troops when a senior member of the COC was visiting them. PC bull****, plain and simple. Putting on a scared face to keep from offending Kharzi and friends. Time to leave: we are being led by fools and charlatans.

It is unwinnable, there is no clear strategy, mission statement an nor exit strategy. Time to bring ALL our troops home. EVERY last ONE of them. And start giving proper help for ALL of them at the VA. THAT is where real money and sincere effort needs to be spent. Get OUT! BRING ALL THE TROOPS home * N O W *!!!!!! .

Yeah, sure don't want armed American soldiers around when there are Afghan soldiers around. Just more leftwing whining.

Gee, if only you had been there to tell the commanders in the field how to act. I'm sure you know much more than they do about the situation on the ground, it is obvious we should have either handed guns out to everyone or we should have disarmed the Afghans. I truly regret you are not there to be part of the attempt to do so or the aftermath.
I have never seen more stupidity displayed on one thread. The depth of your hatred utterly blinds you clowns to simple reason. The commanders in the area are dealing with an explosive situation, and you are in your nice comfy home beating your chest over whether or not a metal penis is strapped on these guys at a time when this whole situation is on the verge of exploding. You would rather see people get killed. And you automatically assume this is some act of surrender coming from the White House based on jack$hit. And not a thought that this is simply something being called by the commanders on the ground. Based on what? Utter hatred of Obama. Hoax emails. Amazing. What an utterly ridiculous display of gut wrenching hatred. Despicable. Why don't you be the first to volunteer to take the guns away from the Afghan soldiers ? |

Can only imagine what it takes to secure high level visitors to a war zone; disarming every single person that's not involved in protecting the person in question seems like a smart move to me.

Man, is my worldview shattered. [Then again, it was probably his liberal Secret Service team, mostly hired under the Clinton administration...yeah...that must be it...] And yes, I know the CinC gets Yankee White clearance and the Sec Def doesn't automatically; but I just felt so....naked.... without my sidearm. I also can't believe the stateside second guessing about decisions made by the commanders in the field; i.e. MG Gurganus: Gurganus later told reporters the decision had nothing to do with the weekend shooting, and said it was because the Afghan soldiers in attendance were unarmed and he did not want them treated differently than the Marines. "This is not a big deal," Gurganus said. But he then added that "you've got one of the most important people in the world in the room," referring to Panetta. When it was pointed out that this had not been the custom, Gurganus - who is new to the post - replied, "There's a new sheriff in town." Damn those Marine Corps generals, just shooting from the hip and making snap decisions without considering how it would play in the media. What a bunch of cowboys. "We support our troops! Except when they make decisions we don't agree with." |

Are you REALLY so naive as to think that this order did not come from the top? Have you ever heard the term "chain of command?"
