So I punched myself in the face yesterday...

I was upgrading the alternator on my 79 300TD to a AL129X. I was lying on my back under the engine and torquing the alternator bolts applying all of my force to the bolt. I was using a ratchet with a rubber handle. I had my left elbow bent when the rubber handle slipped off the ratchet and my fist drove square into my chin at full force. Damn, that was a surprise. My neck was sore from the force snapping my head in the other direction.

I stood up to make sure I was okay and decided to finish putting the bolts on and then called it a day. :o

Has any one else ever done anything like this working on their cars?

yeah sort of. I dropped a wrench on my face when changing a starter on my parents tahoe. I also sprayed brake cleaner on the mercedes' brake rotor and it reflected off and went right into my eyes.

Not really, but a driveshaft once fell on my head right as I removed the last bolt. Not a whole long one, the half one.

While changing the ball joints on the F250, I learned to keep the top nut on when using a hammer to separate the knuckle from the truck...broke 3 toes on that one!

ouch!!!

I once barely avoided potential serious injury when I decided to use a shop hammer on the large open end wrench I was using...:eek:

the wrench was making a most interesting humming/ringing sort of vibrational noise as it flew wildly past my ear...

I had a ratchet slip and pop in the mouth.

Did you live? :D

I've done stuff like that too many times to count.

Yes - I was messing about weighing stuff (I think it was a stripped down OM617 block if I remember rightly)...

I was holding the scales and concentrating on not dropping the block on my feet when the rope snapped and I whacked myself in the head with the scales. Bollocks - **** - **** was all I could say after that!

While upside down torquing the three bolts on the driveshaft and using my second hand to hold the wrench, the ratchet slipped off the bolt head and I blasted myself in the face with my clenched hand.

That wasn't any fun.................
