How to post a private import Ferrari on ebay

I am in the process of trying to post my friends Ferrari 360 on ebay. When I attempted to post the ad it said the vin number was no good. From what I can tell it was a private import from Europe in 2003 and it indicates that it was deemed to meet US safety standards. How do you get around the issue with the vin number and ebay not allowing you to enter it?
thanks

You don't have to post a VIN, as far as I know. I wouldn't advertise that you know of a grey-market car online, BTW. Who knows what f**king louts from the NHTSA or Customs are reading forums, and the car doesn't meet the 25-year rule.

I have seen numerous cars like that. Just put in zeros like suggested above and most I have seen will post the VIN in the description. I would think that most people looking for a car like.that are going to know what it means when a VIN does not get accepted by ebay so I would think an explanation would be a good idea. Might cut down on the questions as well.

Craigslist ad is at: Ferrari 360

Perhaps this is nit picking or just me but I am always leery of the 'I'm selling this for a friend' comment. I am not sure why but it just makes me question the legitimacy of the whole thing. I do not see the point in saying it. Its like you are absolving your self of responsibility of what you are selling. I am not saying you are just that when I read sales like that this is what I take away from it. Why isn't your 'friend' selling it and what are you not telling me.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I can fully understand David.

My friend is actually a customer whose S550 I maintain. He is also a native Vietnamese and his communication skills are about what mine would be if I were to go to Viet Nam and try to post an ad in their language on their ebay. It is hard enough talking to him in discussions of maintaining his Mercedes. The Mercedes is another long time customer and is an older fella that does not do ebay. He is trying to liquidate some of his rolling stock.

Wow I wish I had his problems with rolling stock LOL.

On the subject of "sellilng for a friend" I think the main thing is to not just use those words without some additional and credible context, as they've been worn to death on both eBay and Craigs/etc.

Sometimes it seems like every second seller is selling a car he bought for a spouse, or a relative's car, or has to leave the country (this is my evergreen favourite).

I bought my '85 from a "selling for an elderly friend" listing on eBay and I won the lottery on that one. My previous car, the '80 wagon, was a "sellling for my dad" proposition and well... errr... not so much....

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure I provide a little more explanation whenever I put an ad up from now on.

I think I would take the pictures on pavement and lose the dog. what I take from the pictures: he has had a dog slobbering out the window and scratching the interior, or worse he had to puke or relieve himself. all the while beating it up on a dirt road drive or yard......
