Top o' the pops -- in Europe!
Quote:
"Call me maybe" is being played every day in Germany Switzerland and Austria right now, I know that because I heard it lots of times this month and last, when I drove the Audi A6 all over Europe and the lingua franca of pop rock is ENGLISH! Yep - 100 percent of the songs are played in english!! Carly Rae Jepsen ... "Call Me Maybe" I threw a wish in the well, Don't ask me, I'll never tell I looked to you as it fell, And now you're in my way I'd trade my soul for a wish, Pennies and dimes for a kiss I wasn't looking for this, But now you're in my way Your stare was holdin', Ripped jeans, skin was showin' Hot night, wind was blowin' Where you think you're going, baby? Hey, I just met you, And this is crazy, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? It's hard to look right, At you baby, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? Hey, I just met you, And this is crazy, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? And all the other boys, Try to chase me, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? You took your time with the call, I took no time with the fall You gave me nothing at all, But still, you're in my way I beg, and borrow and steal Have foresight and it's real I didn't know I would feel it, But it's in my way Your stare was holdin', Ripped jeans, skin was showin' Hot night, wind was blowin' Where you think you're going, baby? Hey, I just met you, And this is crazy, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? It's hard to look right, At you baby, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? Hey, I just met you, And this is crazy, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? And all the other boys, Try to chase me, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? Before you came into my life I missed you so bad I missed you so bad I missed you so, so bad Before you came into my life I missed you so bad And you should know that I missed you so, so bad It's hard to look right, At you baby, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? Hey, I just met you, And this is crazy, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? And all the other boys, Try to chase me, But here's my number, So call me, maybe? Before you came into my life I missed you so bad I missed you so bad I missed you so, so bad Before you came into my life I missed you so bad And you should know that So call me, maybe? it amazes me that someone who spends a large amount of their time on this forum spouting his claim for respecting the rule of law, would make such a statement Can anyone say Argentinian history?

I didn't bother to read the article, but from the comments it appears that there is a fear that the Feds are trying to get the power to shut down all communications if they felt the need.
Well, guess what? They have had that power for at least six years. There are those who need that power in the case of a national emergency in order to deal with the emergency, and my old Boss was one of the people who was given that power. One day my group at BIG OIL got called in and told that we would never need to worry about communications with the field since we could now shut down all the cell phone towers to all civilian calls. This would leave them clear for our use during a national emergency. We thought we already had our communications covered with not only land-line phones but our own hardwire phones to each station and with the radio network we owned and the Telegraph system we still had, but we thought it was nice that others were thinking about us. I, nor none of our group members, were given access to this power which is good because there is no telling what we might have done with it. And to show how limited this power was the people in my group had a spending limit of $1,000,000 per day and they still thought this phone thing was above our abilities. I agreed with that since we had enough to do as it was, and we let the Managers know that as long as we could still order take-out we didn't care what they had to do to make it work. They did not find this funny, but then they had no sense of humor. This program was created after 9/11 because the first responders found the cell system shut down due to so many people using it at one time. I think the way the system worked (I didn't pay that much attention since I was not in charge of it) was that you had to dial an access code and that would let you into the cell system. From there you could cut off civilian use or something. Anyway, unless you are in charge of the electrical grid or a vast system of oil pipelines or the air traffic control system it will not kill you to not be able to make a call during a national emergency. But if a few vital calls that would need to be quickly made could not get through..... That might kill someone else. |

Back in the oil biz days we would sometimes get into a situation where a calm hand and a steady eye was called for since a refinery was about to blow up or something. The first people to freeze up were the hard right guys. We finally figured out that they were so rigid in their thinking that they had lost the ability to see the several hundred pathways available to dealing with the situation. They could only see one, and if it did not work they were totally lost. Our Managers used to say that the only time they got worried was when they saw the wild men in our bunch get serious because they knew we were dealing with a lot of information at once. The only times they got scared was when they saw the hard right guys sitting back out of the way because then they knew they had nothing left to offer. When their one solution did not work they just gave up and tossed the problem to someone else. Rant about this if you want to, but I put up with this for over 40 years and now I am retired. That means I don't have to think about it anymore. |
