Job Creators?
Just something to kick around. I don't claim to have any answers.
Somewhere along the way the term 'Risk Taker' was changed to 'Job Creator'. I do not see this as being true, but then I am rather old and perhaps I have not been keeping up. I have taken many risks, and because of these risks some jobs were created, but I have never set out on a project with the intention of creating jobs. I would see it as just the opposite; I want to create as few jobs as possible. I am not in business for the fun of it nor do I know anyone who is. I don't see any right or wrong answer to this 'question', but it would be interesting to see the thoughts on the subject from such a diverse group of intelligent people. I yield the floor. |

We have a lot of PC language today. Probably that is what it is. A way to look at it is this. IF you do your job well and run your business profitably, you make money. When you do, you might hire more people and thus a "job creator". When you take that money home and spend it, you are also creating a job in a sense. Either way, it is just nice words in the hopes that others drink the Kool Aid. Much like a politician telling you how infurated he is at wrong doing, or how sad he is when something bad happens or how a company tells you that they are on your side, behind you all the way, etc, etc.
People are idiots and need to be spoon-fed pablum like this. We ask for the truth but the fact is we cannot handle that truth. We want to be told nice things and that it all works out for the best, "and they lived happily ever after", yada, yada, yada. Take 2 companies that offer the EXACT same thing. One says "I care about you" and the other says "I am here to make money". Who do you think people (besides me) will flock to? Probably the nicer sounding one. That kind of crap works for the simple fact that we want to hear the nice stuff.

I have often thought I create more jobs when I buy a new piece of equipment than when I expand a labor force.
And when buying used equipment one also creates jobs due to the fact that many people selling used are doing so in order to buy new. |

Even What's A "Small Business" Is Complicated When You Check Who is a Small Business
The result, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation, is that only 3 percent of all “small businesses” paying taxes would be affected by Obama’s plan to lift marginal tax rates on families making more than $250,000 and individuals making more than $200,000. |

I have long said a POS tax (WITH NO BREAKS OR OTHER TAXES) is the fairest. Buy $500 of stuff? Get taxed X%. No ands, buts or ifs.

"Risk" and "Reward" are terms intertwined with involvement any investment, of any kind, so far as I understand it.
Even in some things as tangential to this discussion as the contemplation of MARRIAGE...
