Back in the days of gainful employment I would communicate with people all over the country from an office in Texas. At one point we were working in an area where timing of an operation was critical.

The California operators asked us to stop using the term 'Fixin' to' as it was confusing them. We told them it mean 'soon, very soon, as in: on the verge of doing so' but they still felt weird about using the term.

So we changed to tenths of a minute and everything was OK.
