Jeff Foxworthy Style

I am pummelled incessantly when passing along such things, but this one is too accurate to ignore:

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!

I had no idea that you hated America so much. You should move to a better place. If you like, I will pass the hat to buy you a one-way ticket to Haiti. I don't think that ISP's are very plentiful there, so we do run the risk of losing you as a contributor to this forum...damn...

I agree, as the anti's here just criticize with out any back up. all of those statements are pretty accurate and not exagerated truths like most of the "you might be a redneck" lines are.

Perpetrating a fraud, no matter how you slice and dice it.

There will always be ignorant and stupid people in this world.
Larry seems to bring them out of the woods.

BobK 06-05-2013 10:26 AM

Jim just missed the word "style". Easy thing to do when reading fast as we sometimes do. But not, back to the contents and the point of the execise. The contention is that things are not being run perhaps as well as they could be and this is due to some in our government being idiots. I tend to agree with most of the line item complaints, but I think it is due to less benign motives. The urge to control others seems to be a common human tendency. When folks from either side of the aisle get into power, it seems to become an overwhelming urge. Another reason I am for (much) smaller government with decisions made much closer to the people they will affect.

Air&Road 06-05-2013 10:42 AM

I couldn't agree more Bob!

I am pretty sure I have seen folks get arrested and deported for entering the country illegally

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. Currently only 14 states do not require parental consent. What do you have against states rights?

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. Which one of those is a right guaranteed by the constitution? How about this, change "vote" with "buy a gun" (at least in TX) and tell me how it works?

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. Would you rather Egypt buy their planes from A. USA B. Russia C. China

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. The righter actually got one right

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.
Come on, really? Does this even sound true? Never mind, I know it does to you. A simple internet search (you should try that some time) would show that this claim is utterly false. Common sense would indicate that as well but ..... By the way, is a pissed off 80 yr old or the suicidal parant of a 3 yr old not able to sacrifice their life for their belief? Do you expect all terrorist to look like the ones in your conservative hand book? If you were trying to blow up a plane would you dress up in ME garb or a business suit?

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.
Even Bohner came out and admitted that cutting to prosperity will not work. There needs to be common sense in spending and revenue

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. Makes sense to me. Then again, I believe in equal rights for all not just the ones I agree with.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. Way to complex for a 1 or 2 sentence response.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. See above

See above

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots. No rights are being stripped

What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!
Like some imaginary entity gives a crap about this nation when their is wide spread famine, death and carnage in countries all around the world.

OK.

The part about not showing ID to vote..... Bogus.

If you vote in Oklahoma you have to show an ID and it has to be one that is on the approved list of gov ID's.

Oklahoma wanted such a law so they wrote one that was Constitutional. Any other state can do the same.

If your state lawmakers need any help in crafting such a law I am sure the Oklahoma lawmakers will be happy to help out.

It will, of course, destroy any chance the Republicans will have to whine and play the victim when the poorly written laws they are so good at crafting are thrown out, but if you want you state to have voter ID it is an easily done thing.

And.....

Since when has the government spent Trillions of dollars to eliminate Trillions in debt?

The US has been spending money to support the economy so the economy can recover and not go into a Depression. And this has worked. When the economy recovers more people will have jobs and pay taxes and this can be used to pay off debt, but the spending was not to eliminate debt, it was to support the economy after it was destroyed during the Bush years.

And....

The government has forgiven loans when people default on their mortgage?

That will come as a shock to all of those who had their homes foreclosed on.

I do know one guy that went almost two years without paying his mortgage because he was getting past due notices from several mortgage companies. He just refused to pay anyone until someone could come up with the paperwork proving they carried his note. A mortgage company finally did, but it took them almost two years to do so.

Any economist will tell you there are 4 parts to the economic cycle.
Prosperity, recession, depression, and recovery. With allowing the cycle to complete, the economy will never hit prosperity. Do I want to see a depression? No. I heard enough stories from my grandparents about it to realize that I don't want to live through one.

The economy destroyed during the Bush years? Please. What was the price of gas the day our lord and savior took office? $1.659 at the gas station nearest to my house. Today? $3.389, yet in some people's minds this economy is better than the previous administrations. The entire economy started to contract just after Jan of 2007. Remember? That is when the Dems took over the house and senate.

The only time this country did not have a debt was just prior to the civil war. With the current GDP to debt ratio the my children will never be able to own a home, due to the fact to sustain this level of spending, coupled with the minimum increases in programs the federal tax rate will have to increase to greater than 60% JUST TO MAINTAIN IT.

Perhaps "bogus" in OK.

But NOT in the people's Republic of MARYLAND. Here it is illegal to even request ID, or even a voter card. You show up, state "your" name, and correctly give you address, and you are allowed to vote. Maybe people vote fraudulently; maybe not, but the politicians have set it so that it is easy here.

You missed the point. If the people of the great state of MD wanted voter ID law, they could pass one. There are examples of such laws (like in Oklahoma) which have passed Constitutional muster.
The hue and cry that the federal government will not allow such laws is the bogus part.

Interesting that an extremely successful comedian doesn't respond to some chain email running around the rightwing blogosphere???:confused:

Stating that Foxworthy does not get partisan in that manner with his comedy is a very valid point. And unless you really, really, really want it to be written by Foxworthy, it's pretty obvious that it is not.

IF you only worry about the debt when a democrat is in office, yet ignore 2 wars on the credit card, a senior drug benefit on the credit card, all supported by Ryan and his band of "fiscal hawks", you might be a hypocrite.
IF you don't know the difference between classroom material and learning supervised by an educational professional and a crude, ill-mannered comment by a child, you might be a moron.
IF the party you support whines about feeding the poor but has no problem with giving the oil industry $BILLION$ in subisidies, you might be a hypocrite.
IF you support a candidate that promotes "zero down mortgages" and envisions an "Ownership Society", then complain when it "doesn't work out", you might be a hypocrite.
IF you falsely whine about "your constitutional rights" being taken, when reality and facts don't support it, you might be a sniveling hypocrite.

That's because there is not one.

Voting laws are governed by the states and that includes Federal elections as well. This came up during the last election when some people were griping about how Republicans cut out Sunday voting in some states they controlled and how in other Republican controlled areas they cut back the voting hours.

Republicans were quick to point out that there are NO Federal laws concerning voting, that all voting laws are controlled by the states, and that they were running things so everyone would just have to get over it.

As the fellow said in Pennsylvania: Voter ID to insure a Republican win... Done!

Botnst 06-05-2013 11:09 PM

Reminds me of 2000 when the liberal court members discovered states rights and the conservative members discovered voters rights.

Of course, if one only sees one side to a given controversy it makes explanations much simpler.

Is that why Republicans are only allowing those friendly to their version of events to testify at any hearing concerning the events in Benghazi?

The debt to GDP ratio in 1946 was 118%. During the last years of Bush's administration the debt to GDP ratio was 84%.

The US pulled through both of those with no Depression.

And don't forget, the entire economy started to contract just after Jan of 2007. Remember? That's when the housing bubble began to unwind.

To blame something as complex as the economy on one political party or another is truly something only a Conservative would think is intelligent. But then, it sure beats trying to understand what's really going on.

If you can explain what is really going on, and prove it, you will earn your 2nd Nobel.

Forward.

Pooka 06-05-2013 11:24 PM

And.....

Why would anyone want to sustain that level of spending? All you have to do is look back at Federal spending a few years and you will see that it has been going down every year.

You see.... To get at an accurate conclusion you have to start with accurate facts and not a collection of 'what ifs' and 'it seems to me' statements.

Botnst 06-05-2013 11:25 PM

... and all of the facts, not just those which support one's parochial conclusions.

The Repubs are making their case. The opposition also gets to makes its case. Do you expect the prosecutor to also defend the accused?

You should see how the dems run things in Maryland--if you want to see "fairness". Whne having hearings on upcoming legislation, and the public is invited to speak, those supporting the democrat position are given favorable times, and longer time to speak, while the opposition is made to wait, and wait, and wait, and maybe not even allowed to speak at all.
Its politics.

Evidently Pooka has never been in a court of law, or even seen an episode of Perry Mason. In this country, BOTH sides of an issue get to present their case. It happens a little differently in congress, but you can bet those guys will get their say, that is if they WANT to.

^^Easy to cherry pick reply's to comments.

The gentleman in post # 19 gave a well thought out reply in opposition to the basic theme of this thread.

Is there a reason why you have over-looked-failed to respond with a retort ?

I too would like to read a line-by-line response...not just from larry but from others as well.

From my old job, 21+ years in San Francisco's Criminal Felony Courts, never ONCE did I hear of, or see, some murder defendant jump out of the witness chair and yell out: "OK. yes ! I DID it, I DID it, you got me !!"

But that sure happened on Perry Mason TV episodes !

I know it because as I kid I watched Perry Mason on TV. It's the Hollywood version of criminal court trials!

And no lawyer except Perry Mason tools around in a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville like Perry Mason did on TV.

My comments to post #19, for starters there are no sanctuary cities for hunting/fishing licenses as no DNR,s will you get a pass from.

#2 post here if you live in one of those fourteen states and are happy to hear that, and do not think that they are idiot's for for that stance.

#3 the constitution does not give anyone the right to vote without an ID, and the only reason to allow someone to vote without ID is to allow voter fraud.

#4 I would prefer them to buy from anywhere else, as if they get them from US they will not be buying them but it will go under foreign aid (free for life parts and maintenance included) ours are superior then we will be fighting against an inferior enemy, and if they buy them from China or Russia they will have less funds to attack their own people with.

I ran out of time to comment on the rest but will do so soon.
