Anyone have experience with the 6.7 Cummins?

Someone made me a pretty irresistible offer for my truck, so I'm thinking about selling it and moving into a Dodge - Mega Cab with a Cummins 6.7...

Anyone have experience? Stout engines? Transmissions?

My Duramax has been fantastic and would hate to get into something that isn't as good... I've put about 18.5k miles on it in the 6.5 months I have owned it, and haven't had to do anything other than change the oil!

Mega Cab ---- woo hoo!!!

Getting the Mega Cab before the new girlfriend would be a great idea. :D

Yeah, the shop guy has had several 6.7 Cummins. You want to do the EGR delete (if possible), injectors, etc.

Considering an automatic, or a manual?

Autotragic.

Which I know was a weak spot for the 5.9s... :( Someone did say that Dodge switched to a 6 speed auto when they moved to the 5.9...

Spdrun is going to give you a piece of his mind...

Buying an autotragic over a stick! For shame!

(But wouldn't it be Skippy calling you out on that? Or is spdrun like that too?)

I spent some time last night "building" some trucks, as I'm starting to consider shopping for a truck. No manual trans offered. I didn't get deep into the heavier trucks, but nothing in the half-ton choices, and it didn't look like it for the bigger stuff either. I'm sad.

Grill away.

I like auto-tragics in my truck for ease of use, plus modern autos are pretty robust.

It's nice just tossing a trailer on the rear, putting it into D, hitting tow haul, then hitting the road.

The Allison in my truck has a pretty smart computer controlling it, and does a better job selecting gears, and downshifting to slow me down than I would, especially when I am stressing about the 35' trailer on the back of my rig.

From what I know, GM stopped offering manuals in their HD trucks when they changed the bodystyle in 07.5

Ford still has some in their HDs, but is special order. Dodge is the same way, I believe.

2008 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Mega Cab 4x4 Diesel '8747'

Oh, that one ticks all the boxes... 4WD, Cummins, Mega Cab, white exterior, and 6 speed auto...

I have some experience in a gas 2500 of that era, and a current-gen 1500 gas. Unless the price difference is prohibitive, I would price the current-gen 2500 - better body build quality, and better interior materials in the current model.

When there's work to be done its hard to beat the six speed manual like I have. 160,000 miles and not a whimper from it.
